Hello all. Wishing you all the best.
I had been experiencing stomach acje/pains/discomfort on and off for 2 years. 3 weeks ago I took ibuprofen to dull the pain. I vomited up.blood on three occasions in me day so.I went to A.and E.
After keeping me.in for.2.days.and.following an endoscopy and ultrasound they discovered a 3cm stomach.ulcer - and cancer cells. I'm told it's medium severity.
Chemo to start 7th March. If does not work I'll have some of my stomach removed, the surgeon said. Could be the whole stomach!
I'm a bit frightened! : (
Hi Vanburnholdem welcome to the forum and I am so sorry to hear this news and completely understand why you will be frightened. Everything happens so quickly and then you are left to mull over the 'could be', 'might be' and the uncertainty of the whole thing so it is understandable that you would feel a bit frightened by it all, You would be be human if you didn't.
I dont know a great deal about your type of Cancer but I feel sure that some of the lovely folks on here will be along soon to offer support and maybe some words of comfort and advice for you.
It sounds like they are going to try the chemo first to see if they can shrink the tumour and this does have some degree of success but we all respond differently so no one can give you any 100% guarantees at this point, but hang in there because there is a "possibility "and thats maybe all we can hope for at this point and its not a 'no' and they are going to try as best they can for you and they will.
Its not going to be easy for you and the treatment takes its toll, but we are here for you, as much or as little as you wish us to be and there are lots of different specialists at the Macmillan Line who you can chat with if you don't maybe say want to talk with family as an example. they are open every day from 8am-8pm on 08088080000.
Sending my very best wishes to you for your treatment and Im sure that right Im sure some hugs wouldn't go amiss so Im sending some of them you r way as well virtually. xxx.
Hi, so sorry to hear about your diagnosis!! You are going to feel frightened, upset, frustrated, asking yourself why me!!! I was when I was told and I’m still feeling the same now… I was diagnosed with stage 4 at the end of November and it was a shock as I had no symptoms. I’ve just finished 4 rounds of FLOT and will be having surgery next month and it’s a total removal of the stomach.
All I can say is deal with each stage of the treatment slowly and process everything that’s going on, ask plenty of questions, write the answers down as too much information is so confusing also look on Macmillan to find out information… You might not want to talk to your family about how you’re feeling but talk to support group even if it’s just how’s the weather…
Please take care… sending hugs
Hi
So sorry to hear about your diagnosis and understand what a shock it is for you! I had chemo then a partial gastrectomy three years ago and now lead a normal life! I would not have believed it was possible! You can read my Blog by clicking on my name.
I found really helpful advice from the Oespheagal Patient Association
The Gold treatment is Chemo then surgery and then follow up Chemo. It is very scary coming to terms with a cancer diagnosis but just take one stage at a time and focus on eating as well as you can, some exercise- I walked when I felt able.
If you have any questions please use this group or send me a DM
Good luck!
Jac
