Hello, I am new here. I had a total gastrectomy and had 35 lymph nodes removed on March 26th 2019. I have had trouble when eating and drinking ever since my surgery. I was wanting to know if anyone else has had the same problems and of so what did you do to solve it. Anti nausea medications do not work for me. I eat small quantities at least 6 times a day and still have nausea.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm not a member of this group, as I had a different type of cancer, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll hopefully be seen by someone who can help.
Have you spoken to your CNS about the nausea you're experiencing? Is there a dietician at your hospital who you can be referred to?
You might find this information from Macmillan on tips for managing eating problems helpful and you could also post your question in the ask a nurse section of the online community if you don't get any replies here.
If you haven't done this already you could use the search bar at the top of the page to look for previous posts on this topic.
While you're waiting for replies it would be great if you could pop something about your journey with cancer into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi Larson, I had a totally gastrectomy March 2020 they removed 18 lymph nodes 16 were cancerous. I too struggle with eating this is mainly due to my esophagus being very red and inflamed after radiion. It’s been 10 months since I finished radiation and doc told me it’s just a waiting game basically and in time it hopefully will improve. I also get nauseous there’s no pattern to it and can’t put it down to anything I eat that triggers it so unfortunately looks like something we’re stuck with. I also eat very small amounts of food mainly soft as it’s very painful and uncomfortable to eat anything else. They used to call me the big fella not anymore lost 90lb in weight. Keep fighting pal
Hey Benton, thanks for the info! I'm not going to give up and don't you either. If I can find something that will help us in will let you know and hopefully you will do the same. Take care my friend.
