Hello I'm new and really confused. I'm not sure everything has sunk in yet. My 30 yr old daughter has been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. My husband lost his mother at the age of 14 to this same cancer. She will be getting a port put in Monday to start chemo next week. Is there anything we can do to help her? Is there any advise on what to expect? She has tried to tell us what doctors are telling her during appointments but with the Covid19 she has to see doctors alone. I dont think everything they told her she understood or she may not have told us everything although she does want and need our support. I dont want her to feel like she is being drilled for information so I sit and wait for her to remember things the doctor told her. I know she is starting a FLOT chemo treatment
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to hear that your daughter has been diagnosed with stomach cancer and it's natural that you want to know what to expect with her treatment.
I didn't have this type of cancer but have found this information for you about FLOT and also this information about stomach cancer, which might help to answer some of your questions.
If she wants you to know everything that her doctor tells her during her appointments she could ask the doctor if she can record the consultation on her phone which she can then play back to you later.
It's perfectly normal that you want to support her as much as possible so you could take a look through this information from Macmillan on supporting someone with cancer. You might also like to join the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and get support for yourself.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute it would be useful if could pop something about your daughter's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi BDRios,
I had stomach cancer and have now recovered. I did go through chemo and surgery but also alternative medicine that worked very well with conventional treatment. If you'd like to know more please get in touch.
Much love,
Debra
Hi Debra, I have recently been diagnosed with primary pancreatic cancer and secondary stomach cancer and will hopefully be commencing chemotherapy soon. My stomach seems to be permanently bloated causing some considerable discomfort, did you have a similar experience ? If so did anything help you ? Lack of sleep is a major issue at night but I know this is very common with any cancers. Any information would be helpful.
Adrian
H Adrian,
I had stomach cancer at the top of the stomach, so where the esophagus starts. My issue was swallowing which was making it difficult to eat. Although I did find the whole eating/digesting thing a challenge.
I found a routine with supplements and a special tea I discovered really helped. Too much to map out here but if you'd like to know more, I'd be happy to share. Just message me.
Debra
Hi Debra,
My dad was diagnosed with stomach cancer last year it was stage 3 at first and now has moved to stage 4. He had chemotherapy 2 times and nothing has helped. He has become more poorly in the last 2 months, to the point where now he has lost his apetite and energy. We are trying to find a solution for this, he has been taking complan energy morning blended with some berries. But we need some guidance on what would be the best for him to eat. I've been on the hunt for a dietitian. But maybe you could tell me what worked for you? Also, he is experiencing a lot of pain in his stomach, did you also have that after you ate ?
Thank you in advance.
