Bilious vomiting

Hi my mum had a total gastrectomy for cancer which was successful about 2 years ago. Last year she developed dysphagia and couldn't tolerate anything solid by mouth and had to r "foamies" spitting foam and some retching but managageable. However she lost a lot of weight and they fitted an NJ tube which worked well for a few months. In December she decided to switch to a J tube as its permanent and since then she's been burping, retching, throwing up loads of bile and in lots of pain. Has this happened to anyone? Did anything fix it? It's absolutely awful to see this happening to her and she's had to be admitted several times. The surgeon said just focus on jej feeding and nothing by mouth for a month just water, but even still she's throwing up the bile regardless. She has some days where she's not vomiting but it's happening so frequently. Any advice would be much appreciated

She had a load of scans (barium swallow mri and ct and it's not shown anything really).

  • Hi,  sorry road hear about your mom. Don't worry. My hubby is going through same issue of vomit thick mucus only some times. During any medication or chemotherapy it is frequent. Then gradually it reduces. Doctor gave antifungal course for 1 week. Then onwards i is like once or twice vomit in a day. He prefers to pull out mucus before meal, he feels relaxed. So he takes half cup / gargles warm water about 20/25 mins before meal. Mucus loosens.

    Hope your mom recovers soon.

  • Thank you, sending love to you and your husband it’s such a horrible time and glad that it works for him Heartbeat will certainly tell my mum to try this x
