Hi everyone. Has anyone experienced ay bile reflux here? I’m 5 months pst TG and has been eating well until suddenly I have been experiencing a bit of bile reflux and is affecting my eating. Have you got anything that worked for you? Many thanks,

Jill

  • Hi, I had my operation at the end of April and was fine up until the last couple of weeks when I’ve had reflux again, I’m eating well and I am still on omeprazole 20mg once a day and have bought some rennies for when this happens which seems to be helping. I have no idea why this has started happening again x

  • My husband was told as the vagus nerve is cut ( in most cases) thats the cause of acid reflux, but no idea how to stop it apart from milk and rennies when it happens. He gets it at night about once a week. Xx

  • I’m confused with the replies here, I thought with TG there is no stomach and therefore no stomach acid? So only bile reflux is possible. What are those rennies you guys mention? Need to be prepared. :)

  • Hi,Rennies work similar to gaviscon and can be bought from any chemist or you can get them cheaper at some of the other shops like savers, B&M, Superdrug etc x

  • Best thing to take is something called cholestyramine, has to be prescribed x

  • Yes justawife, you are correct, with no stomach it’s bile reflux you get, my husband can stand at the sink coughing up stuff when he gets it ( but not bad enough to take the prescription meds that has there own side effects that Chloe mentioned)  I get acid reflux that burns in my throat, the rennies helps both of us xx

  • Cholestyramine (Questran Lite) as Chloe says is really effective for bile reflux as it is a bile binder. My dad uses it as soon as he starts to notice symptoms or if he thinks he's going to eat something that will set it off and he has no issues (he's six years post TG and knows when he's pushing the envelope on what he's eating at this point). He swears by it.
