Hi everyone

I’m doing ok, they did a sub total gastrectomy on Wednesday leaving about 20% of my stomach. I have had very small and soft meals, e.g. a thick and creamy yogurt around 110ml pot. Having a drink either 1/2 hour before or after. The only issue I have had is not seeing a dietitian before being allowed to eat anything, it’s a good job that I had researched what I could have otherwise it may well have caused me a big problem. Thanks to those that gave advice on this forum and the book A guide to eating after a gastrectomy. The ward staff do not appear to have any understanding of what you can/ can’t eat/drink or when. I will be raising this as the next person may not have gathered the necessary knowledge or information to support themselves. I have had to repeat myself to all the nursing and housekeeping staff.

Good luck everyone xx

  • Great to hear that you’re recovering well!  I found the same issue with eating after the operation as I wasn’t given much advice on how much to eat!  The dietitian eventually came to see me but it was a lot of trial and error!

I agree that sharing information on this group was invaluable!

  • Hi, thanks, she was meant to come on Friday but didn’t. They don’t work weekends,

I have asked how much is in the bowl, how much can I eat, no one has been able to advise, so  just guess work by myself. I’m just concerned about those who haven’t got the right information and what happens to them.

I-have been offered paracetamol tablets twice and have had to say that I can’t have solid’s or food with bits in. Here’s me the thinking nutrition was important x
