Hi
over a year down the line of total gastrectomy, I’ve lost a lot of weight but maintaining, I still have an appetite but struggling to consume calories needed daily. My main problem is constant belching , endoscopy all normal thankfully! Any one else have this problem? X
Hi Ali 2 my husband had TG last Jan, he has awful belching mostly after eating or drinking, he also struggles to put weight on and like you struggles to consume calories needed. He often has an M&S ready meal at lunch that has about 500 calories in it, he just about manages to eat that. I don’t think a meal I’d cook would have that many cals in it with less volume. It’s hard to know what to do. If you find an anything helpful I’d appreciate you letting me know. Apart from that he’s absolutely fine xx
Hi Ali 2. I am 70 yr old male. I was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma of the stomach, diffuse type, in April 2023. I have undergone direct TG (no chemo) in may 2023 and the biopsy result wasT2N2M0, which was stage 2 cancer. Underwent IMRT radiation therapy concurrent with oral chemo followed by 3 cycles of oral chemo. Since August I am suffering from excessive belching fullness of throat occasional abdomen pain. After complaining with doctors, they prescribed CT scan from throat to abdomen, Bronchoscopy, Colonoscopy and finally PET scan. After all these tests they found nothing, meaning no recurrence. They prescribed Pantoprazole for reflux and pain killers. Also B12 injections and Ca and Fe tablets. But I am unable to eat well because of bloating and belching and lost nearly 5 kg in 2 months. I am going for an unscheduled consultation with OPD this week, whereas my actual appointment is 2 months down. Please update, if you have found any cause and remedy for this belching. Thank you.
Hiya thanks for the message, I’m sorry I can totally understand your discomfort, following my gastrectomy sept 2022, I had no burping, it began when my chemo stopped Jan 2023, I have tried every medication but nothing has helped, I had. Barium swallow and endoscopy, nothing of note found. No professional can give any answers, like you I struggle to eat, just things like soup, yogurt, ice cream etc. I’m now waiting for a hydrogen breath test- you may want to suggest that for yourself, and been prescribed buscopan the only thing I haven’t tried, I’ll keep you posted xx
