Hi, I just wanted to give an update as I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the stomach and the oesophagus. I had to do a lot of research and found a fantastic professor in London that would help me as my oncologist and surgeon said they were unable to help. I had 4 sessions of FLOT chemo which I also had to fight for but this helped to reduce the tumour. I went to the Imperial Hospital in London for my total gastrectomy. I was in surgery for 11 hours and lost my spleen but came out of surgery cancer free. Please stay positive and don’t be afraid to ask questions. I was diagnosed March 2021, so nearly coming up to 2 years. I was only given 6-12 months to live originally.
Hi
Can I ask how you got surgery when you were diagnosed stage 4? We were told surgery is out of the question because it had spread beyond the stomach?
X
I had to ask quite a few surgeons, but in my case it was because it had spread to the aortic lymph nodes and everyone said that if I had surgery I would probably die. I found a great surgeon who was willing to take a chance. He removed my stomach and part of my oesophagus and 122 lymph nodes, making me cancer free. Xx
This is a wonderfully positive story! Thanks for sharing!

O wow thats amazing!! Maybe we should have fought for a second opinion...
So happy for your positive news x
Absolutely I had to fight and to be honest my oncologist wasn’t too happy and they were really negative but I didn’t care as I just wanted to live. They are a bit better now as I still use my origin hospital for check ups but they never offer me scans I have to fight each time. Sometimes you just have to be brave
What a wonderful hopeful story! So pleased to hear your good news! Gives us all hope x
Hi, really encouraging to hear your story. Did you see the professor privately or NHS. I’ve been told palliative chemo but I want to fight this and know what other options I have. Please could you help me with how I can contact the professor who helped you. Thanks xxx
Hi, I had to pay to see him privately for my first consultation when he then asked to see my scans. He works at the Imperial Hospital in London. His name is Professor Hanna. I just looked him up on their website and contacted him. I think the consultation was £350 but definitely no more than that, sorry my memory is terrible so can’t remember exactly the cost then he took me on as a NHS patient. He is an amazing surgeon. Xx
Thank you so much. I will definitely contact him to get a second opinion. I’m young, fit and healthy and believe I have a fighting chance
Happy to hear you’re living cancer free
