Awaiting more biopsy results

Good evening all

I was diagnosed last month and on 27/11 had my staging lap they saw a spot on my peritoneum which they have biopsied and we are awaiting the results.

I was told if biopsy is negative I am stage 3 and will have chemo before total or sub-total gastrectomy, if its positive I am not a candidate for surgery and will be placed on the palliative pathway.

All the waiting for results and for the MDT discussion is painstaking, I've not even seen oncology yet as they want the biopsy results as the chemo would be different depending on staging. Does anyone know the most used chemo in wither of these situations as I would like to research a bit?

I currently have an NJ tube for feeding and a NG tube to drain as mine is situated in the pylorus so I am currently only able you take on small amounts of liquid (water, squash, tea, coffee) and I am absolutely desperate to be able to eat proper food again and get rid of this tube.

Would be great to hear if anyone has been in a similar situation? I turned a female and 44 on 15/11 and am based in Essex

  • Hi, I just wanted to respond to your message on here, it’s really hard waiting for results and treatment plan, I hope that things go well for you, my cancer was very near the pylorus and was stage 3, wishing you all the best

  • I am wishing you all the best with your results. Waiting for the oncology team to devise their plan is terribly hard. And getting nutrition is a challenge.

My 83 year old mother is stage 4 and not a candidate for surgery as the cancer is throughout the peritoneum. She is on a palliative path and has only had 1 infusion on 4 December. Her treatment is Folfox (day 1 + 15) with Trastuzumab (day 1 + 15) with Pembrolizumab (day 1 + 42). Her cancer has a HER2 marker, so they tried to qualify her for a clinical trial, but at the last minute, they found her kidneys were not in a condition to qualify her.

Hopefully someone with more information will post back soon. I'm in Chicago, so our resources will be different. It does seem the doctors have to be nimble and must get their data before they're able or willing to give the patient information. Very hard to be patient.

    Take good care of yourself!
