I posted in the new comers group but felt I wanted to now move to this group.

My amazing wife was diagnosed 4 weeks ago with stage 2 stomach cancer(T4 N0 M0). this all menat nothing ro us until reading all the books and further research.

We have just had our 2nd round of chemotherapy, which is a more concentrated dose due to only a short period of treatment (6 weeks) all the side effects are coming thick and fast and it's certainly been a shock to is both.  Its knocking her for 6.  But the worst one which has affected her the most is the hair loss, probably another week before she gives in and shaves it off.

It hard to see her struggling with the hair loss, and I know she is really hiding her feelings from me, I am finding it hard as I want to help but don't know how.

However, im sure 20 years of marriage will help.us along way, and also she has supported me for 22 years of my military career so I  need to repay al the support she has shown me throughout my ups and downs.

She is such a strong women and its really hard to see her struggling, she is exhausted every single day and just when you think she feels good its time for the next round, but it's a path to recovery, we have to ride out this bad times for many more good times.

  • Hi

Chemo is very tough and affects everyone differently. It sounds as though they are giving your wife a high dose!  I found a couple of things got me through!  I drank at least one and a half litres of water every day.  I know FLOT means you can’t tolerate cold things so herbal tea helped, the lemon and ginger helped with nausea. I ate rich tea biscuits…though cannot look at them now.
I had a bath in the morning and lying in the warm water helped pass time.

Losing my hair really upset me and I got a lovely wig , which although in the end I didn’t need, it was good to have it.  I used Grow Gorgeous products, which were lovely but I have no idea if they made any difference!

I wrote a Blog of my treatment

The last thing I would say is my husband, family and friends got me through.  I remember my husband giving me pieces of apple as I lay on the couch feeling awful!  So love and care will get you through!

  • Update: 19 Aug

3rd round complete, the weekly treatments are really taking a hold of her now.  There is just no let up for her to feel human for a single day

She decided she wanted to brave the shave last night as she lost some hair from the top of her head.

Tough few days a head while we adjust to her new look

  • Update; 3 Sept

Round 5 of 7 conplete, she is really struggling this week.  Every part of her body hurts, and she has no energy whatsoever.

Watching her be strong is truly inspirational, she is determined to not be bed bound be the chemo, no matter how much I keep telling to chill.  She is such a fighter.

It's hard for me to watch as there is very little extra I can do and sometimes no matter what I do to help I often feel helpless as I hate seeing her in pain, but it's all for thr good and benigit of her health.

Tumors has shrunk 3.5xm which is huge news to us.

  • It’s really tough but hang in there! The chemo is working, which is a real positive! Only two more to go!

  • It's been a while since I last updated

Chemotherapy sessions are now complete and the tumour has shrunk by 7cm, which is means its now half the size and therfore less stomach will be removed.

Hopefully find out next week what the plan is for the operation and post Op recovery

It's been a hell of journey so far and we know the next stage isn't going to be any easier.

  • That’s really good news and if you can get away with a partial gastrectomy, recovery is much easier!  So fingers crossed!

Treatment is a long, hard road but a normal life is possible at the end!
    Good luck,

    Jac

  • It sounds like the chemo has worked fantastically I hope she’s feeling better this round, I know for some people some cycles are better than others and hope she’s recovering well from it - I think they offer surgery 4-6 weeks after the last cycle so you both take care and have a good rest xx
