Hi all, well my husband has just left In a NHS car to go to Notts hospital hotel for his total Gastrectomy tomorrow. I’m obviously very upset as I can’t go with him but we live over 2hr away and I can’t drive. I’ll visit him Friday when I hope he’s come round a bit and is more with it, is that going to be long enough do you think?
Just thought I’d update you all and I’ll let you know how the op goes.
Thanks for been there x
Oh Sue, that’s so hard for you. Today and tomorrow will be endless for you! I think it was harder for my husband and family than for me. I don’t remember much about it but I had so many tubes coming out of me after the operation, it was quite a sight!
You will be surprised how quickly he recovers, every day sees progress. Even small things like a tiny amount of water to drink is a big step!
Do you have family or friends to keep you company? The weather is awful here so going for a walk isn’t pleasant but sometimes getting out for half an hour breaks up the day!
Do let us know how he gets on!
Take care
xx
Jac
Sue your husband is going to be fine. I had my operation on 29th October and was in the ICU for three days were the nursing staff kept a constant watch over me. I have 11 tubes fitted in my body two were the drain fluids from my chest. After the three days I was moved on to a ward and over the course of the next 10 days almost all tubes were removed as and when the doctor's felt is was safe. The medical team who worked on me came everyday even on their days off to check on my progress. I am now coming to the end of the next stage which is 4 lots of chemotherapy which is to make sure there is no cancer cells in me. Hope this helps to reassure you. By my family did visit me which was a big comfort. Regards John
Thanks Jac and John, it’s lovely that people are here when needed and someone to talk to who’s been there.
Just had a phone call to say he’s got there ok and the people in the hotel are lovely and very helpful so I’m feeling a bit better that he’s ok ish,
Tomorrows going to be very hard and a lot of tears I’d say if today’s anything to go by, my daughters coming in the afternoon so I won’t be alone Jac.
Again thanks for just been there xx
