Hi
Just wondering if anyone has advice.
I had total gastrectomy in January due to cancer. Things have been ok since, able to eat little and often. However the past few days I feel like I’m having spasms in my oesophagus/throat, it happens at random times and is a little worse when eating. Within minutes I become very burpy and I feel like I have thick phlegm in my throat and it won’t settle, I have to bring it up and it’s very thick mucous. Sometimes I manage to keep it down. It doesn’t happen every time I eat, if I have a piece of toast or a biscuit it’s ok, it just seems anything slightly larger and I’m struggling.
It’s only been going on for about 5days, I’ve no nausea, it just feels weird.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks
Lou
Sorry to hear you are having this! I had a tight feeling in my throat/ chest with mucous but I am not sure it’s the same as you describe.
It has got a bit better for me although still there on and off. I put it down to a cold type virus.
Why don’t you phone the Specialist Nurse and ask advice?
Let me know how you get on
xx
Jac
Thanks Jac
Spoke to my nurse this morning, she contacted my surgeon, he said it’s reflux and to double my evening medication and take loads of gavisgon, will see how it goes and go back to them if it isn’t helping, I suppose the new plumbing is bound to have problems along the way.
how are you doing? Hope you’re well.

This could be due to reflux.
