Hi, I had a total gastrectomy in January and am having big problems with bile reflux. My surgeon has prescribed a non NHS drug (sucralfate) which doesn’t seem to be helping much. As well as having nausea about an hour or two after eating, I either feel like I’m going to be sick or actually am sick about twice a day. I’m not vomiting food, just bringing up luminous green bile! Has anyone had similar symptoms and found a solution? My oncologist won’t start the next stage of chemotherapy until problem is solved. Many thanks
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read about the problems you're experiencing. It must be really horrible for you especially as your oncologist won't start the next stage of your chemotherapy until this issue is solved.
I don't have the experience you need but I noticed that your post had gone unanswered. By replying it will push your post back to the top of the page where someone with the experience you need may see it and reply.
I'm presuming that your team are aware that the drug you have been prescribed is not having the desired effect. You could also post your question in ask a nurse and one of the specialist cancer nurses will aim to respond within 2 working days.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I hope you can get this problem sorted quickly and wish you all the best

No. My medical team said the medicines I’d been given usually work for people and that I was just unlucky. However, the good news is that things improved significantly about 3 weeks ago and the nausea and bile reflux is greatly reduced without me doing anything different. I was always told it would take a year to return to normal and I think after 9 months my body is finally getting a handle on things. Fingers crossed that the progress continues. If you’re interested in my experiences, I’ve been blogging at www.loathingthealien.com
All the best to you both.
Chris
Thanks very much for that, it’s very encouraging to hear. I hope it lasts, going to try acupuncture to see if he can get any relief. Reading your blog, very interesting and helpful.
