I have a large 25cm lesion in my left abdomen which is a suspected retroperitoneal sarcoma. I am only 24 and I am 8 weeks pregnant. I’ve had MRIs and blood tests and have a biopsy tomorrow morning to confirm if it is definitely a sarcoma and if it is cancerous. I’ve been told I will have to have surgery to remove it along with my left kidney and part pancreas, colon and spleen and chemo as well. The specialist has said they will not do surgery or chemo when pregnant and I will need to have a think about a termination. I can’t refuse any treatment or surgery that I need as I have a 1 year old who I need to put first. I’m really worried and really want to keep this pregnancy. Has anyone got any similar experiences or advice? Is there any way around this to save the pregnancy but still to treat me? They’ve said either it being such a big surgery and aggressive treatment that baby will not survive anyway.

  • Hi @afa

Welcome to the community though so sorry to read your story. It is so very different to that of my wife that I sort of struggle to relate too directly.

I have fingers crossed it might not a sarcoma, though I feel I might understand what the doctors are saying I am not a medical expert.

Perhaps what might be helpful is to ring the helpline here 0800 808 0000 (open 7 days a week 8am-8pm) and or Sarcoma UK 0808 801 0401 (Mon-Fri 10am-3pm) as then you can talk to experts in a more direct feedback. I know when I have spoken before I seemed to spend more time crying than anything else but the staff really understand that.

    <<hugs>>
