Hi everyone

Completely new.... im being fast track for suspected melanoma skin cancer on scalp.  Around left temple area i have 2 raised black lumps.... about 2/3 mm across.  Been there 1/2 years.  Im single, 2 grown up kids and mu parents live abroad... im terrified,  sleeping 2 maybe 3 hours a night.  I have no experience of cancer and im scared.  This is all on top of my Dad being in final stages of MND.  I literally only have my 20yr old son but of course hes living his life.

I was just hoping for what treatments,   what this means... facts rather my mind racing/ thinking what it wants... need a voice to steady me.

Well, if uve read this, thank you xxxx

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I was diagnosed with Stage 2a melanoma nearly 9 years ago now so know how frightening a possible cancer diagnosis is.

I hope you don't mind me recommending that you also join and post in the melanoma group as you'll then connect directly with others who have been diagnosed with or are being investigated for melanoma.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

My lesion wasn't on my head but my arm but I'm sure there will be others in the melanoma group who will have experience of a lesion being checked for melanoma on the scalp.

No matter where the lesion is it will be removed and sent to the pathology laboratories for them to examine. This is normally done under a local anaesthetic.

When you have it removed make sure that you ask how long the current wait to get results is, how you'll be told (ie face-to-face, phone call, letter, etc) and ask for a contact number in case the results aren't back within the timeframe.

Most people get their results around the 4 week mark but it can be as quickly as a couple of weeks or as long as 6 weeks, depending on how busy the pathology labs in your area of the country are.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
