BCC removal on nose and skin graft

I had a bcc removed on 26 sept and a skin graft and dressings removed a week later. The aftercare instructions were to apply antibiotic cream twice a day. But I was just putting the cream over gunk. So I went to my docs to see nurse and she told me to clean it twice a day then add the cream. I am confused as to what I should be doing. The graft is still weeping I am not sure if it should be dry at this point or if the antibiotic cream is preventing it from getting dry. So confused should I be cleaning it should I be leaving it? Any pictures I have seen from other people don’t look like mine and I am worried as to what I should be doing!

  • Hi

I didn't have a skin graft when my BCC was removed so don't have the relevant experience to share with you. However, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

If you feel that your wound is no better than when you went to see your GP, then it might be an idea to make an appointment to see your GP again so that they can check everything's okay and clarify how you should be looking after it.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hello, I didn't have a graft but a skin flap repair. I was told to clean it gently with a cotton bud and warm water, then pat dry very gently and I then applied vaseline from a new pot , again using a cotton bud. I would think that you could do the same but instead of vaseline use your antibiotic cream. You are wanting to stop the healing area from drying out from what I understand.

Hope that helps but did they give you a number to call if you were concerned if so I'd call that and ask to clarify what you should doing for your wound care.

    Hope you get on ok.
