Hi,

I have just had a consultation on a suspicious lesion on my arm... i was told by my doctor the consultant would take a biopsy... but at the hospital I  was told they are just going to cut it out then send it off to be tested!

I have been working myself up, and I still don't know what I am dealing with yet!...

I could be waiting up to 4 to 6 weeks for the appointment....

Every one I have seen have said it looks suspicious....

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the group which I hope you'll find is both informative and supportive.

It's always worrying when you find something that doesn't look right and it's natural to worry about how long it will be before it's removed. Most skin cancers, if it is a skin cancer, are very slow growing so a 4-6 week wait won't probably make any difference and is the usual wait time for this type of procedure.

It's also normal for the whole lesion to be removed as it's then sent off to the pathology laboratories to find out what it is. They also measure how big it is so if only a small part was removed to biopsy your consultant wouldn't have the full picture.

I've had a lesion removed from my arm in the past so if you want to ask any questions I'll be happy to answer them.

  • Thank you for your reply... I had this what I would call a sun spot on my arm for many years... no problems with it, I also gave a couple of my leg... July this year it bleed very slightly and then scabbed over.... the scab fell off about a month later, and then started to scab again... so my worry is would it have been spreading before it changed?...I'm so worried, and today I have got a bad cold which the pharmacy told me I could have covid!.... obviously, I thinking God is my immune system compromised!...  I'm a bit of a worrier at best!......

    It's nice.to have a bit of reassurance...

    Thank you

  • How are you getting on now? Have you had surgery yet? I’ve just had a fairly large lesion removed (not a mole), which my GP, and two Specialist Dermatology Doctors have no idea what it is! Fortunately, removal has been quick as I managed to get in on a cancellation but waiting for results is a nightmare as I have absolutely no idea what it could be.

  • Hi, hope you are ok..

Yes I had the suspicious lesion removed... my appointment came through quick due to a cancellation... this was 3 weeks ago.. I still have had no results back though... so obviously, iv been stressing alot....

The waiting is horrendous... I'm so worried I will have to have more surgery.

Mine wasn't a mole either, but I think they suspected an SCC.... but until I hear back, I don't know....

    How is your recovery going?

  • So glad you’ve had surgery. At least that’s one thing out of the way. Hopefully it won’t be long now for your results. I’m ok recovery wise - surgery was on Thursday, so only 4 days ago and a while yet to wait for results. I was told 3-6weeks. What about you?

  • I was told results could take 6 to 8 weeks, I'm on a 2 week pathway as well!... I keep calling  Dermatology...

Did they remove all of the lesion and margins?...

I hope all goes well for you...

  • Yes, all was removed and I was told at my first appointment that margins would be taken. I have  a few internal stitches so that would fit with margins having been taken as there was more growth under the skin than on the surface.
I hope you get your results soon.
