I had a biopsy done of a fast growing spot on my nose, which the GP thought was squamous or AK. The result came back as AK, plus a prescription for Efudix treatment once a day for a month. After three weeks of treatment there doesn't appear to be any response at all my nose. Should I be relieved or worried, does anyone know?
The spot was a bit painful before the biopsy, but painless after the biopsy, though it is still visible. After the treatment it looks the same level of red it was at the beginning. I don't have any contact at all in Dermatology so am not sure whether I should do anything.
Any comments from other people who have experienced this would be really helpful, thanks.
Hi Greyowl
I don't have any experience with using Efudix but my husband does. He was prescribed it to remove a BCC but, like you, he had no reaction to it whatsoever. When he went back to see the consultant at the end of the treatment period, it was decided to remove it surgically.
Do you have an appointment with whoever prescribed the cream to you at the end of the four week treatment period? If not, it would probably be best to make an appointment to see what should happen if your skin still doesn't react in the final week.
Hi Greyowl I have experience of using Efudix however in my experience it has always caused the area being treated to react. For nothing to happen at all I would go back to your dermatologist or GP and find out why nothing has happened.
Thanks for that advice. I have no appointment with dermatology, but I can start with the GP.
A few days after posting this, my nose suddenly reacted quite stongly to the cream. I'm in my fourth week of using it, just four more days left before the reaction happened. I had been prepared for no reaction for the first couple of weeks, but not for so long into the treatment. I thought I would add this information for anyone reading who is also waiting for a reaction.
Thanks.
Hi greyowl...... I've used efudex on my nose and it took two weeks to see a reaction, so probably best you contact dermatology if you haven't seen a reaction in three weeks to get some advice
