3 weeks ago i had a SCC removed from the back of my hand and it's been covered with a changeable light dressing ever since as it's still wet and weeping a bit. There is no sign of infection and the medical team are happy with it. But do I keep the dressing on until it dries up completely which could be another several weeks.? I'm concerned as its still a bit wet if I leave it uncovered it could get infected. All the web sites and the nurses I speak to at the Hospital advise different things about the dressing and how long to keep it on for. And what are your views on using vaseline on a wet wound as I'm not sure about it as it's not sterile? Thanks
I would personally keep it covered with a light dressing until it stops weeping. I was told to use vaseline at my 6 week post surgery check when everything was healed to keep the skin supple and help with the scar. I also used bio oil at this time, but mine was on my face. My dressing came off after 3 days, as my Surgeon said it would as it was at the side of my nose, top lip and as I tried to eat it started t fall off, but it wasnt weeping. Good luck and hope all goes well for you xx
