Hi, I have a BCC on my cheek, it has been there for over 3 years, only went to GP when it started to feel strange and crust over. GP refereed me to dermatology in February and after the dermatologist saw me she booked me in for an urgent punch biopsy. Bit worried now for several reasons; the sudden urgency from the dermatologist seeing it. I didn’t ask but now I’m wondering why it is now being treated as extremely urgent when I’ve waited 6 months for a referral that had I not chased, I would have been booked for April 2025.
I’ve also noticed that I feel the BCC on my cheek now, I can only describe it as it feeling like I have a giant boil on my cheek, even though it is small on the surface. I am really aware that it is there because of these sensations and I’m worried if that means it has spread deeper into my skin?
Has anyone else had sensations from their BCC and had it successfully removed from the punch biopsy, or did you require further surgery? I am worrying if the fact that I can feel my BCC on my cheek means that it will have spread to my nerves?
Hi Anxiousmole
When I had a BCC removed it was done by excision so I don't have any experience with punch biopsies I'm afraid. However, there are quite a few people in the forum who've had them and hopefully one of them will pop on soon to share their experiences with you.
Do you have a date for your biopsy yet?
Hi anxiousmole You are bound to be worried and anxious as I was when diagnosed with 2 bcc's on my face. I had one removed with skin flap surgery and the other with skin graft surgery. Both on the left side of my face. I had a puynch biopsy with one as derma scope was giving inconclusive results. The punch biopsy was done whilst I had the skin flap surgery. Unforunatey the biopsy confirmed bcc and I had it removed with skin graft this time. All carried out under local anaesthetic and they have heaed well now and scars are hardly visible. Perhaps with it being on your cheek you can feel it more as it is more fleshy. Mine were one by my nostril and upper lip and the other right at the top of my nose under my eye right by the tear duct. One was just like a perly grain of rice and the other like a scab that wouldnt heal and I thought my glasses had rubbed my nose. Keep in touch this site is brilliant, we all help one another through our ordeals. Good Luck xx
