Hi everyone! Hope all is well.
Im 34 years old and I got diagnosed with bcc on my chest the week before xmas after a biopsy. Its only small but I think I had it for roughly over a year before i got it checked. Ive been referred to dermatology for a wide excision. There are no appointments available for at least 40 weeks in the 4 hospitals around my area. My question is, is it worth looking at going private? I have no idea on how to even start looking or the costs. As its bcc Im aware that it very rarely spreads but at the same time it is a worry. Can anyone give me any advise, recommendations or experiences that they have had?
Thanks x
I think I have BCC on my nose, the doctor can't be sure. I got dermatology for the end of march with the NHS so went private at a cost of £195.00, he said I need a biopsy. cost of 585.00. I am waiting for my GP to see if they can fast path me through the NHS. Reading the threads I think you / we are looking at between 3K - 5K for private
I had a SCC removed from my cheek by simple excision privately in July 2020. The total cost was £485. This included the excision by the dermatologist, lab work, 2 follow up nurse appointments to check healing and a 6 month follow up appointment with the dermatologist. I was initially told that this appointment would be charged extra but when I went, I didn’t have to pay. I was given a few suggestions of local clinics by my GP who didn’t want to refer me to NHS dermatologist because of the waiting times and because “it’s probably nothing”. Wrong!
My suggestion is to get on the Internet, ring round and ask and to read reviews.
Hope this helps
Have you been able to have your surgery on the NHS or did you seek private healthcare afterwards?
I had 2 BCC's, Mohs surgery, private care total cost approx £1500 that included histology and use of NHS premises as the surgery was completed in amongst NHS cases. The BCC's were on left lower cheek and to side of left eye. Very fine scars and Dermatologist said healed beautifully.
I've just had 3 biopsies with NHS after a 16 week wait for appointment following referral from GP 'You have so many there, why don't you just leave them, you are going to be disfigured, I'm not even sure how they can even help you' Not the best way to be told you have cancer again.
4 + month wait for histology results and then no idea the waiting time for Mohs surgery in Aneurin Bevan.
Dermatologist says I require Mohs surgery as ill defined edges on the lesions, so infiltrative?
I was wondering if I can pay privately to have the histology completed, to at least quicken that process up as don't want the cancer to continue growing, as the 2 have developed very quickly on forehead (within 3 months) and one on side of nose is quite extensive already.
Any advice support would be greatly appreciated
