Hi there.
Looking for a bit more advice re my excision (local anaesthetic) for a bcc on my right temple i had yesterday. Woke up this morning to a nice swollen and bloody looking woundsite with a touch of black eye to go with it. I know all this is normal and to be expected but is it normal for the surrounding are to be really tight and i still have numbness going from top of side of forehead and down into my lower cheek?
My stitches come out in 7 days and i cant imagine what it will feel like when my skin tightens more naturally during the healing time til stitches come out. Hoping the feeling settles with the healing process. Feeling a bit frazzled by it all but a small.price to pay - id rather this than knowing I'm still living with skin cancer!!
Any advice is much appreciated.
Hi ,
The swelling is probably causing the tight feeling. You can expect that to subside in the coming days. Likewise the numbness. Take things easy for a few days. Getting the stitches out will make the area more comfortable and the skin will actually relax and regain its elasticity rather than tighten as time goes by.
Check with your team if you feel that it is not improving in a day or two, but for the moment what you describe is how I was two years ago when I had a BCC removed from my right temple. The scar is barely noticable now.
Take care
Miranda
Thank you so much miranda. Its been a whirwind few weeks. I was only diagnosed 2 weeks ago on the day of my dermatology appt so havent had time to come to terms with it let alone deal with the physal side now its out. Your reply has helped ease my anxieties. I will take your advice and see how it goes and get int touch with my team if it doesnt settle. Stitches come out next week so hopefully
ll will be good then. I just didnt expect a lovely black eye to go with all the swelling everywhere
Glad to hear your scar is barely noticeable - mines is on my right temple too so fingers crossed it heals likes yours. But a wee scar is nothing in the grand scheme of a skin cancer right enough.
Thanks again for your reply

Hi
I hope your surgery site is starting to calm down a little now. Let us know how you are doing.

Thanks Miranda. Ive woken up this morning with a puffy under eye and the inner and outer eye are has purple/red bruising. Still got some tingling sensations too going down my face. Im nipping to pharmacy forore pain relief so will ask them to have. a look at it. (I'm in scotland and the pharmacy can deal with minor ailments) i see it csn tske weeks for swelling to heal completely but i didnt realise my eye would start swelling some days after surgery.
Thanks for asking - stay safe.
Nic
