Sorry my story is so long

I feel it’s just one mess up after another,

Back in March 2019 I went to my GP with what I was convinced was a form of skin cancer On the side of nose by cheek, GP told me it wasn’t and even got another Dr in to check as I wasn’t convinced, was sent away with some cream, by Oct it was worse so went back, this time a different Dr took one look and said “I don’t like the look of this” will refer on to hospital, hospital appointment, yep looks like a bcc dr said we need to do a biopsy to make sure, I then pointed out a ridge line that goes across part of my nose, he took a look and said oh yeah looks like an infiltrate bcc! ( notice I had to point this out) , week or so later had biopsy but then had to wait 12 weeks for results!!
was as expected an Infiltrate bcc, at my appointment was told they would do a extraction with a skin flap, I asked if I would have MOHs surgery to be told “not needed“. Op to be around March time, due to pandemic this was now put on hold,

So 28th July I have my op I was terrified, they were great and reassured me all will be fine they do this all the time.
results would be 1-2 months, I was quite pleased how it looked considering what I was expecting, but the loss of sensation in part of my nose I didn’t expect and wasn’t told could happen, anyway time passed it was healing but still felt the same, still constantly itching the odd shooting pains, maybe it’s the scar healing I thought, over time I was convinced this is not right they couldn’t of got it all out.
2 months passed I heard nothing after 3 months I rang the hospital asking when I would get my results as I was told 1-2 months, to be told they shouldn’t have told you that, we have a huge back log you will just have to wait for an appointment, I mention it didn’t feel right and was still itching, again told wait for appointment, after 4 months I rang again to be told the same again, NO appointments, I will chase it up for you but you just have to wait, again mentioned it didn’t feel right.
so yesterday after a full 4 1/2 month from surgery I get my phone call appointment.... sorry but unfortunately we didn’t quite get it all out and will need to operate again! . Unfortunately due to pandemic all operations are cancelled again and we don’t know when you op will be, normally it would be 1- 2 Months time, but it could be a long wait. So I said what no idea at all are we talking weeks months years? Sorry I don’t know

so yeah I’m feeling hurt, angry, upset, terrified and hugely let down with pretty much no support at all ( on top of this I also had a breast cancer scare and my biopsy was due the day after lockdown in March, So cancel, but thankfully that was done once hospitals reopened And luckily was told it was calcium cluster which can sometimes be a sign of early breast cancer but all was ok and they have placed a metal clip in the area so can keep an eye on it.
2020 has been the worst but now I’m feeling like 2021 will be exactly the same

feeling heartbroken and totally drained

sorry for long rant,  I Just need to get my frustrations out Somehow

  • Hi .

My experience is similar to yours, in that I had a BCC removed from the side of my face last October but had a call 6 weeks or so later to say that it was infiltrating, and that they’d not got it all out.

I understood that because they’re having to tread a fine line between doing their best to get it all out and doing as little cosmetic damage as possible. What did upset me, though, was that there wasn’t any proposal for anybody to discuss it with me, including whether there might be options for the form a second surgery might take. I was simply told that I’d be given an appointment for another excision.

Anyway... I managed to speak to the skin care nurse, who was able to answer my questions, and I had the second surgery today. Hopefully they’ve got it all this time - I’m told there will be an other 6-8 week wait, but I was actually quite relieved that they were able to go ahead with it this week, bearing in mine the new national lockdown, so I’ll just have to be patient.

If your hospital is anything like mine then you will have a chance to ask the surgeon questions before you go into the operating room - before giving consent. I didn’t ask any today as I felt I’d got to the bottom of things over the last couple of months as I’ve been waiting, but I did ask some first time round, and the surgeon was happy to answer them.

I hope you get your appointment soon, and that all goes as well as possible for you. It’s more than annoying that you had to wait so long in the first place to get a referral, and also that you had to wait such a long time for the results. I can well understand that you’re frustrated and fed up about it x
