Hi All, 7 days ago I was identified as having a BCC which is central to my spine its small but evident. With appointment for removal initially for December now moved to November and on a cancellation list.

My rational brain knows that it is slow growing but I have itching and dull pain around it. GP has given me some hydrocortizone cream to treat the symptom.

I'm still in a bit of shock my back is not open to the elements except probably 1 day a year if that what a wake up call!!!

I have seen lots of people referring to BCC on their face but has anyone experienced this on their back?

  • Hi yes Ive had two BCCs removed from my back, both were quite large. Mine bled a lot and due to their size were surgically removed,

Try not to worry (I know easily said than done). Hope you get relief from the cream your GP has provided you with. I just used lots of moisturiser twice daily on mine to keep the itching at bay.

    best wishes

  • I’ve just been diagnosed with BCC on my back for the third time.  First time I had a lump in the centre of a large red scaley area middle of my upper back in the centre of my spine.  Doctor removed lump and said scaley area was nothing, stitches split before I got home, back to A&E to have it glued.   I learnt five years later that the “nothing area” was in fact a large basal cell carcinoma.  Whole area was removed by using a chemotherapy cream for six weeks,  however because of where it was every time I moved my arms it pulled and after a week split open yet again.  Two weeks of being at A&E at 8a.m. Every day to have it packed and dressed - they kindly told me if I was sitting in the waiting area at 8a.m., as they changed shifts they’d take me straight through to dress it instead of waiting for 5 or 6 hours.  It took roughly 3 months to heal and I was told it was gone.  12 months later it’s back, about 2” square this time and running into where it was before.  This time the whole area is to be removed surgically but instead of being referred by the nhs to a private clinic they sourced out to on the first occasion this time I’m to go to the Broomfield hospital and I’m under a top oncology surgeon.  But like you I have to wait until later in the year as it is very slow growing.  Hopefully we will both be treated sooner rather than later and hopefully both heal easily and well.  Bottom line it makes me feel sick thinking about it and the tough recovery the first two times.  Let me know how you get on and wishing you an easy time, x
