Struggling to cope with diagnosis.

So I’ve had a fungal skin infection for 15 months and my GP has been treating it with creams for fungal infections and that didn’t work so we went onto 4 months of tablets for fungal again didn’t work. I went back on Friday and my doc had another doc in with them who pulled the emergency cord and said woah not fungal at all, we need to send off a biopsy for skin cancer! Skin cancer? What why where how? I’ve successfully fought two different types of cancer so far, one normal one and one very rare one and can I really be about to embark on journey number 3?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to our corner of the online community.

It's such a shock isn't it, to think that something doc 1 thought was harmless doc 2 is more worried about. Do you have a date for your biopsy yet?

Most biopsies remove the whole lesion so, if it is skin cancer, it should all be removed with the initial excision. Then, if it is a skin cancer, you may need a further excision to make sure know stray cells were left behind.

While you're waiting for your appointment and biopsy, feel free to ask any questions.

  • Hi there. I’ve just come on to say that I am currently going through something quite similar - just been referred for a suspected melanoma on my back. If it is, this will be the third type of cancer I’ve had in 5 years… all unrelated (supposedly!). I don’t have the energy for if at all. Just sending solidarity to you - it feels frankly unbelievable

  • Yes it does doesn’t it? After two previous cancers, both different types you feel like you are owed a break lol, but sadly no one informed the cancer that our names were off the listRofl Good luck in your fight. Julie x

  • Thinking about you both x
