I recently saw consultant after a couple of years of small patches appearing on my nose tip and bridge which bleed occasionally and always spontaneously without being touched. He wants to do biopsy and this appt has come through much more quickly than I expected as in 10 days time which is fantastic service on the NHS but has freaked me out a bit. What can I expect in terms of the procedure, pain and scarring. I really do need to run with this having seen family members have much more extensive surgery as a result of leaving lesions to grow but I have had a wobble and beginning to wonder if I should have waited a bit longer. All advice welcome - and thank you.
Hi, I had a biopsy for BCC on my scalp a few months ago which is obviously different to having it on your face. My biopsy was done in a nurse led unit and took hardly any time at all. They injected my scalp with local anaesthetic (it stung but wasn't too bad) and I didnt feel a thing. I had no pain afterwards either but had to see nurse at nearest treatment centre every week to have wounds checked and dressing changed. I think you've done the right thing in getting it seen to, you sound as if your panicking which I understand. If I can help you in any way let me know.
I had a biopsy on my nose bridge. The biopsy didn't hurt at all except for the local anaesthetic in and out really quickly with a small dressing like a plaster on top. It was a bit sore but nothing too bad after. Couldn't get it wet for 48 hours then had to wash it with water once a day and apply vaseline.
Wouldn't wait longer than necessary. Sooner it is dealt with the easier it is. Then it's just the wait for the results.
Thank you. That's much appreciated. I just really want to get it done now albeit I have a wobble once a day!
Thank you. The consultant did say it would be more of a sting than anything so I can handle that. Its afterwards which worries me as in infection risk. I know someone who developed MRSA from the stitch removal procedure also done at the hospital and it took ages to find an antibiotic which would touch it.
I presume you mean the person had an infection from the stitch removal after the biopsy. I dont know if this helps as obviously your biopsy will be in a different place from mine. My consultant said before the biopsy that I wouldn't have stitches or staples to close the wound but it would be left to heal from the inside out. Obviously well covered with dressing which was checked and changed by nurse every week. It didnt take as long to heal as I hought it would.
I have stitches in my wound after BCC removal last week but Ive been given antibiotic gel which I apply around the wound 3x per day obviously to avoid infection. Hope this is of some help.
