Hi
Thank you for letting me join.
I went to the nurse practitioner on Tuesday as I had an itchy raised spot on my forearm that was uncomfortable.
She took photos to send them to Dermatology but said it is probably Basal cell carsinoma. I was shocked.
Thursday I had a phone call from the GP clinic that I had to collect a prescription from the pharmacy. Dermatology had spoken to my GP.
I picked up the prescription and when I got home found out that the cream is Fluorouracil 5% which I had no idea what it was. Completely in the dark about this whole thing.
Feeling a bit overwhelmed tbh.
Can anyone help?
Thank you.
Hi, sorry to hear ️ , it's a type of chemotherapy cream, my best friend is using it at the moment for melanoma cancer on her wrist and lower arm, Side effects are not great but it's worth it if it does the job . Can't really believe they gave it you tho without all the tests/biopsy first
Thank you for replying to my post.
I am in shock. No tests were done at the practice. Nobody told me what this cream was for or explain how to apply it.
Feeling very let down.
I bet you are, oh gosh that's terrible communication on their part, ide complain if I were you but I do like to moan lol. How are you feeling in urself
Hi Rockpoold2062a and a very warm welcome to our little group
I can totally understand why you'd feel overwhelmed given that you have just picked up a prescription without having a GP explain what it's for and when and how often to apply the cream.
I would strongly advise that you contact your practice first thing on Monday morning to speak to the GP who's prescribed it and to ask how often and when it should be applied. You should also have been told what to do if you get any reactions to the cream and what to do when the course has finished, ie whether you need to make an appointment to see the GP for him/her to assess whether the cream has removed the BCC, etc.
I think you've been treated appallingly and please let me know how you get on on Monday.
Anne
