Hello Everyone

Hope you are all doing as well as can be expected.

I was diagnosed with BCC in Feb 25, I had a spot on my chest and leg for about a a year or more, had my GP refer me to dematology where they took pictures, and 1 day later had a phone call to confirm it was BCC. On my first Biopsy visit , I had 6 BCC removed in total , 2 came back with needs of cutting deeper to remove all traces, had this done a few weeks later, and then they spotted about 6 more BCCs, had these removed and now I have one apparing under my eye, which I have had a small Biopsy and was just informed it is indeed BCC. Has anyone had one removed from under their eye before, I am very concerned as the skin is so thin, will i need some sort of plastic surgery and how badly will the scarring be. Thanks all , I am truly down with the whole BCC thing, I know things could be worse, but I did love my sunshine and have not been in direct sun since feb, why do they keep appearing on me, have I got more to come, anyone else still get in the sun, I hate not having the sun on my face, sorry for the rant. Hope you are all feeling better than myself

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to our group

I can understand your frustration with having so many BCCs removed and the worry that you may have more to come. My BCC was on my chest, so I don't have any experience of having one from under my eye removed, but hopefully someone who has will pop on soon to share their experience with you.

As you know it's important to protect your skin from the affects of the sun but this doesn't mean that you have to avoid going outside.

Like you I enjoy being out in the sun but I'm much more careful now. When I was diagnosed with melanoma I realised that I'd have to adapt my way of life to stay safe in the sun.

When I was diagnosed I was given a leaflet with the following advice and thought you might find it helpful:

    1. Stay out of the sun during the strongest time of the day (11am to 3pm) between April and October inclusive in the UK and in all months of the year in any other part of the world
    2. When going outside wear long sleeved tops and trousers/skirts made from natural fibres like cotton
    3. Wear a broad brimmed hat (brim should be at least 3 inches) and sun glasses
    4. Sit in the shade and never sunbathe (or sun bake as the Australians call it!)
    5. Any part of your body that is not covered, ie. face, neck, back of hands should have a sun protection cream of SPF 50 that is effective against both UVA and UVB rays
    6. Re-apply the sunscreen every couple of hours or immediately after swimming
    7. Never use sunbeds
    8. Don't use sunscreen instead of covering up

So follow these 'rules' and you can still go out and enjoy yourself.
