Hi all.
I have had a lesion on my nose for over a year now, got told it was a spider vein but over a period of months it changed - it had a lump forming ontop of it.
I went back to the doctors and told them that i had sent a photo into ChatGPT and that came back as suspected BCC. The doctors then referred me and within a week i had the teledermy photos done, these photos then confirmed it was BCC. 4 weeks ago i had my biopsy taken, and still haven’t had any results back.. how long does this usually take for somebody who’s been told they have BCC cancer.. ? The nurse did say a couple of weeks so I’m just wondering if anybody else has had to wait a long period of time. Quite worried as they have said a bunch of different things i might have to have done, MOHs… chemo cream… nitrogen… Thank you
Hi. I rang up for my results 2 weeks after a biopsy for a suspected BCC. I was told they had my results but were not going to tell me for over 10 weeks what they were.
I complained about this straight away. I was told the results by another doctor the same day. I did have a BCC. I was appalled.
I was told they decide when to tell you or not as the case might be. It is disgraceful.
My advice would be to ring them up. Find out if your results are back and ensure they give you them straight away.
As a result of what happened with me I am having my BCC removed at the end of this month, 5 weeks before they intended to tell me I had cancer.
Good luck.
Hi Milwxrro01ff18 and a very warm welcome to the group which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
In my experience results are usually back between 4-6 weeks but it mainly depends on how busy the pathology labs are in your area of the country. However, if the nurse told you that you should hear in a couple of weeks then I'd phone the number you should have been given to see if your results are back yet. If you weren't given a contact number then just phone the hospital and ask to be put through to the secretary of your consultant/surgeon and they will be able to look to see if the results are back.
You need to bear in mind that the secretary isn't allowed to give you the results over the phone even if they're back. This is because they're not medically trained and you're bound to have questions whether it does turn out to be a BCC or not.
There are various ways that a BCC can be removed including the ones you mention of Mohs micrographic surgery, cryotherapy (nitrogen) or by using a chemotherapy cream. If the biopsy does show that it's a BCC then there will be a MDT (multi-disciplinary team) meeting. These are usually held once a week and are attended by a team of health professionals who will decide which treatment would be best for you.
Clicking on the links I've added will give you more information about the different types of treatment you mentioned and also what a MDT meeting does.
