I am not sure I should post here, it's totally new to me. Here I explain. Since January 2024 I found a bump on the side of my nose, I thought it was a pimple ( I am 65) so I squeezed it. Then it went away. One month later it comes back and keep disappearing and it lasted all year, on off on off. Then around the beginning of this year it appeared again and didn't go away. It's not healing and it's very itchy day and night. I sometimes wake up with the bump bleeding not realising I scratched it in my sleep. I have a bit of burning sensation as well. Today I told my husband about it, he didn't realise I had it because I always hide it with make up. He searched online about it and now I am a bit worried because it's talking about basal cell carcinoma. I didn't go to the doctor earlier because I always thought it would go away and I am not a fan of doctors. Should I make appointment with my GP? How long does it take to get rid of this bloody bump. Should I be worried? I just keep thinking about the word cancer!
Hi CraftyNicole. Don't be worried, but I know that isn't easy, as I was a nervous wreck..Your "spot" sounds exsctly like mine was at the side of my nose on my cheek. You need to get an appointment asap with your gp and tell Reception you have what you think is a sinister skin lesion on your face. Your gp will probably refer you to a dematologist and it will go from there, as to what they think it might be. My dermatologist and Plastic Surgeon both said immediately it was a basal cell skin cancer from looking at it through a dermascope, a magnifying glass they just look at the sprt through. They are very common, very treatable and mostly caused by sun damage. I have had 2 so far both on my face, operated on by skin flap and skin graft surgery. I was terrified but there was no need to be as it all went smoothly, looked a mess for a few months, but now you wouldnt know where they had been. This site is amazing, always someone to talk to you and try and calm your worries. It was my life line, as like you I had no idea what they were, but I got through it, as you will. Stay in touch and here to help anyway I can. Good Luck. xx
Thank you so much Harlyn. But I've never been a sun worshipper, I am as white as my bed sheet So they do skin graft surgery, it does scare me a bit. But I will definitely contact my doctor on Monday. Let see what she says then I will report here. Thanks again xx
Hi Crafty Nicole I was 73 and never a sun worshipper, never been on a sun bed and used sun cream always. Plastic surgeon said it was damage in our childhood when suncream wasnt really heard of. Good Luck and lets hope it is benignxx
