I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes.

I have a small 2-3 mm solid lump in my right anterior helix ( ear ) My Dr referred me to dermatology on Tuesday they didn't say what they thought it could be but on my online notes it says

Chondrodermatitis nodularis ? BCC;

The dermatologist has come back saying they  reviewed your referral and advised your referrer to consider a different course of action.

It says my Dr will be in touch . But it's the weekend and I'm freaking out. Any ideas ??

  • Hi  and I'm sorry to read about the current worry you have.

I know how horrible it is when it's the weekend and you can't speak to anyone medical to find out your results.

Obviously any of us here would only be guessing what the doctor is going to say to you but, hopefully, you'll find out tomorrow.

    Sending virtual ((hugs))

  • So an update -to say I'm not impressed is an understatement.
Having got myself in a state all weekend I decided to phone the dermatology department today to see if they could update me.

Turns out my Dr has referred me to them in the wrong way . They have sent a note back to the surgery telling them the right way to do it , but they also said if they don't check then the surgery might not actually see it !! So I have to phone them tomorrow to tell them how to do it.
If I hadn't have chased it up then my referral might not have ever gone through ......

  • I speak from experience of messed up "communication" - of rather lack of communication. Following my experiences I contacted PALS and ended up having a face-to-face meeting at the hospital to express my concerns ... ALWAYS be on the ball with things like this ... never assume anything ... keep chasing - it shouldn't be necessary but sadly it is ... Good luck!

  • That's really not good enough is it! You'd think that your GP would no the correct way to send a referral to the hospital.

From my experience the hospital is right that the doctor might not even read the note. My oncologist, for a different type of cancer, wrote to my GP twice asking him to monitor a certain blood level and he didn't once contact me. In the end I contacted the surgery to point out what the oncologist had requested and they arranged for a blood test.

We shouldn't have to chase these things but, sadly, we often do.

  • I'm really annoyed as my husband has just gone through a cancer scare ( luckily he was fine but it was a long few months  ) at the same time I got made redundant ( I now have another job ) so the last 3 months have been awful.

We go on holiday next week and just wanted time to spend together and not worry about anything .

Because the GP didn't seem overly concerned and said it could be weeks or months before I got an appointment I wasn't going to tell hubby until we got home so he wouldn't know any different so he could relax properly which he deserves.

Because I freaked out at the weekend thinking they were going to put me on the 2ww I told him yesterday.

Now it turns out I could have just kept quiet until later this month.

    Don't they realise they're messing with people's lives ........
