Good morning- I am also new to this group and have had a biopsy and been diagnosed with infiltrative BCC on the right side of my nose. I have the same concerns and have been warned that the waiting list in my area is up to 12 months. I need MOHS surgery. I have an appointment with surgeon in January to discuss MOHS. 12 months just seems like a long time, even if it is slow growing and I don’t like the word infiltrative! Hopefully I will know more after my appointment. I was diagnosed beg October but had to wait for biopsy confirmation which took 8 weeks.
wishing everyone the best who are also waiting for surgery.
Afternoon. I was diagnosed in Sept and told mohs was a year so decided to go with just having it cut out which was 16 weeks wait at that time. Couldn't wait that long and it's already getting bigger I think . So leaving it would probably be less positive. Plus the stress would be too much. Irs such a long process. I think I am coming up to 11 weeks so hopefully not much longer.
Hi Hazel S I have had 2 basal cell cancers removed from my nose and one under my eye right up to the tear duct. I was offered MOHS surgery but I asked my plastic surgeon what was the percentage of getting it all out with nornal surgery and he said 96% so I opted for this route for them both, I had them done privately as waiting times were so long, Have you been given any advice as to why they want you to have MOHS. It is more complicated, think that is why there is a longer waiting time as you normally have the MOHS done and a couple of days later you have the reconstruction surgery done, so not as straight forward. The one under my eye grew so fast my Consultant couldnt believe it when I turned up for the operation, so perhaps think about going down this route if the waiting time is shorter as a year is a long time to wait. Feel free to ask any questions as I know from my experience it is a very stressful time x
Hi Harlan - thank you for your kind comments. I have been advised MOHS due to the position of the BCC on the side of my nose and the higher success rate of having it all removed. I have been referred to Nottingham as no MOHS specialist locally. I have an appointment with Consultant in Nottingham early Jan, so will know more about waiting times following that. If 12 months, may have to consider private procedure, but I presume it is expensive if reconstructive surgery also required. I am pleased to hear that you have this behind you, it is definitely a stressful time. I know we are told the majority are slow growing, but mine was 8 mm in October and has been labelled as ‘infiltrative’. I will see how I get on in Jan. Thanks again. Hazel
Hi there - thank you so much for your comments. I have been referred to Nottingham for this and have an appointment in January, so will make a decision on the way forward following this. I do hope you get your procedure dated for early in the New Year. Wishing you all the best and fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
Hazel
He is Consultant dermatologist, think the plastic team may do the reconstruction. Keep in touch and here if you need to as anything else as I know how stressed I was waiting. Once I had seen the plastic surgeon I did feel more relaxed about it as he was so nice and reassured me everything would be fine in time and it was xx
