Hi everyone

I am new to this group. I have just been diagnosed with bcc side of my nose.  I have had it for about 9 months now which i thought was just a spot.  I am  now to wait for surgery. I am scared  if it has spread to the bone of nose. My thoughts are all over the place. I am worried sick. I am 36 years old. Does anyone have any advice on same situation as me?

How was surgery?

Did it leave scar?

Did they have to cut across face or was it small cut?

Could it spread to bone after 8 months?

Sorry all questions.

Thank you Blush

  • Hi again

    So sorry

I said they took a 4 inch margin. What I meant was a 4mm margin

  • Hi

Thank you for your comment. It does really help me an calm my nerves about it all. When you say latter does that mean you left it to heal alone? Didn't you get the skin graft.

I am hoping it's not to long to be seen. I had noticed similar bcc on top of eyebrow today so going to ask if they can check it for me. I just so worried over what the scar would be like but everyone has made me feel better about it.

    Thank you Heart️

  • Hi

Yes. Secondary intention healing means it was left to heal by itself. I had regular dressing changes but it did mean I had to keep it covered for about 6 weeks. It healed well though..... I didn't have a flap or skin gaph.....    I was also told that after having a bcc it's not unusual to get more so definitely best to get the other area checked

  • Hi Harlyn

it is in same way comforting to me to read your post, I had a Bcc from my nose removed this week on Tuesday , but it seems that I have an allergic reaction to the dressing, so I probably would have my removed tomorrow.
i wanted to check, did you go out with some type of cover? How did you took care of it. The plastic surgeon told me to use e45 or Nivea to massage after two weeks.

which sun protector are you using?

    Thank you

  • Hi

Hope your well. Did you wait for nhs or private to have bcc removed?

I am being told by surgeon that it's 16 month waiting list for nhs.

    Thanks

  • Hi no I was fast tracked by the paramedic at our surgery and had an appointment in 2 weeks. The doctor I saw wanted to discharge me with out examining me properly. Was very dismissive I said I wanted it removed. She said it wouldn’t be on the NHS so I asked how much she said she didn’t know and carried on saying to the nurse discharge. In the meantime a higher up doctor came in from behind me and said remove and the other doctor said all of it and she said yes . She was suspicious of it . I then had another appointment in 2 weeks and the results back within 2 as well.I was told the results would take 2-10 weeks so feel lucky it’s done. I would be persistent to get yours removed . I had mine for well over a year and then there seemed a change in size irritation and bleeding. The nurse said she thought it was ulcerated. . I hope you get yours done soon . My back is still painful and I have pulled a muscle in my side stretching told me to be careful x ps was on NHS .

  • Thank you for your comment. Hope your feeling OK. Glad you got yours removed fast.

I am going to ring up an ask as mine has got bigger in size. I am concerned also if left they will have to cut out deeper to.

Hopefully its not a 16 month waiting list.

  • Hi where about is yours . They did go fairly deep and around it with a margin .Go back to your Gp and see if they can fast track you . Xx

  • Mine is side of nose. Yes I am going to Pray

    Wishing you fast recovery x

  • Hi Katrina sorry you are having trouble with your dressing.  The first one I had done with skin flap, the dressings came off before I had the stitches out.  The Consultant said they would as when I ate it made them move, so stitches were on view for a few days.  When the stitches were removed from this I had no dressing or anything on it and it looked quite red, but luckily we were still wearing masks so I could hide  The next one I had done at the top of my nose, under my eye was done with a skin graft from the side of my face.  This has the dressing and like a scouring pad stitched to the skin graft, looked like a blue bumble bee.  This looked a mess as it oozed blood which had nowhere to go and when they took the dressing off it was a huge black scab.  I was horrified and it didnt seem to get better so sent a picture of it to my Consultant, who told me to vaseline it to get rid of the scab and see him in 2 weeks.  I did and he said this does happen sometimes but shouldnt really so he saw me again before he discharged me.  After a few weeks when they had settled I was told to massage quite hard with vaseline, the old fashioned nivea in a flat blue tin or bio oil.  I chose bio oil and sat massaging it lots of times a day as I watched tv.  My scars are hard to see now.  I know they are there but friends say they cant see them. I wear Factor 50 No 7 facial sun cream every day.  I put my moisturiser on then the sun cream, then Factor 50 No. 7 foundation.  I find these work brilliantly and did show the Consultant what I was using and he said the No 7 facial sun cream was excellent.  I was never a sun worshipper really and always used sun cream and it has made me rather paranoid now, but he did say you have to live your life and not be afraid. Easier said than done.  Good Luck and Happy Christmas. x
