Hi I seen my GP today he thinks spot on my arm could be a keratoacanthoma or squamous cell cancer has red flagged me to dermatology. My health trust is showing a 10 week wait for red flag referrals! When you got your first apt did they do biopsy at it, or did you then have to wait again for biopsy?
I'm really annoyed as contacted GP 2 weeks ago sent pic, they said it would be better to see a certain gp who was a skin specialist but was 2 week wait for apt. I had thought he would do biopsy today but he just referred me to hospital. I should have just seen a regular GP 2 weeks ago and got referral!
I had what turned out to be a malignant melanoma on my face ... only got a biopsy 3 months later when the cream given to me made no difference (I was told on first appointment it wasn't cancer). LONG story ... After my surgery I got an appointment via PALS to discuss my experiences. The head consultant told me they do not biopsy automatically.
Thanks for the reply Sapphire, have read your profile, what a journey! I also have a cruise booked for September our first, my siblings and I have all turned 60 and this is a very special occasion so that is also weighing on my mind! I've had the travel insurance since January do you think I need to let them know at this stage?
Hi Harlyn thanks so much for info , my GP did I think use a dermascope? Was like a magnifier? He just said there was no way to tell but did suggest that as it had grown so quickly there was more chance of it being a keratoacanthoma. It is still getting bigger though slowly now , it started as a tiny pimple/insect bite middle of March so it's only been about 10 weeks in total at minute (3 weeks since I seen GP and was red flagged) but it's an average 10 week wait for red flag referrals and apparently that status can be changed by the hospital! GP did check my lymph nodes for swelling in my neck and arm pits.
