HI,
I have just had 2 moles removed and a larger 'pinkish area' on my back biopsied. I have been told that the moles removed will be fine (removed and therefore gone!) but i will be starting chemo cream for my back. I've been given very little info on when this will be or the implications/side effects etc.and assume this will happen when all rsults are back - so who knows how long that will be! I didnt go armed with questions as believed i was only having moles removed and would just be awaiting the results of the biopsies.
So basically I'm wondering if anyone has used chemo cream (she did say it'd be a 6 week course) and what i should expect? I feel a bit blinded now and am cross with myself that i didnt think to ask anything like this when i was there....
Thanks
Hi hautol and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I don't have any experience with using chemotherapy cream but I have had moles removed and biopsied, so I understand what a worrying time waiting for results can be. Usually results are back within 2-6 weeks with most people finding that they get them at about the 4 week mark. However, it all depends on how busy the pathology labs are in your area of the country. You should have been given an indication of the time frame when you had the biopsies along with a number to call if you hadn't heard by the time advised.
Is the chemotherapy cream that you are going to use called fluorouracil (Efudix®)? It is also sometimes called 5FU. If it is there are a number of people in the group who have used it in the past and I could 'tag' them to see if they could pop on and tell you about their experience with it.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi I’m starting this today too I’ve just received my cream. I’m all over with emotions at the minute and finding everything hard to take in. I’ve had to push for months and months this has been going on since March and they finally done a biopsy in July which I’ve just received the results and it’s came back as basal cell cancer, after being told for months that I’m far too young (21) to be having cancer. Hope your ok and please give me a message if you need anyone to talk to :)
Hi There,
Please let me know how you get on with it - it is really stressful - especially the not knowing. I'm similar in that I've been waiting for years (literally!) and having tried various different creams have now been told that i'll be starting chemo cream - but I've no idea what to expect. Mine is on my lower back and so even sitting is awkward...which again worries me as I'm not sure how I'll react with the cream... will i be able to drive to work etc? I don't know of anyone who has used chemo cream before and so don't know what the side effects are or how it makes you feel - sickness wise....My stitches from the biopsy are now infected so its delaying things a bit... more waiting!
Anyway, i hope all goes really well for you and i have everything crossed it does. Please do let me know how you get on!
take care x
