Hi everyone,

I had a BCC removed in April and have been waiting for my 3 month follow up appointment. I phoned the hospital today and was told due to the current situation they are running behind with appointments. The secretary then went on to say that she would send out an appointment in the post for a zoom appointment!! Is this normal? I wanted to show the doctor what I’m not happy with in regards to my graft but don’t feel comfortable doing it over the computer. Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Hi

I don't know if it's normal to have a telephone consultation for a follow-up appointment after surgery but it's certainly normal to have them for  check-ups with dermatology since coronavirus reared it's ugly head!

Since being diagnosed and having follow-up operations for melanoma, I have three monthly check-ups with my dermatologist but the last two have been by telephone. She told me that they are currently only seeing people for surgery as after they see a patient the whole room has to be disinfected and then can't be used for a number of hours. This means that they can only see a few patients every day.

My appointments are by telephone but I have head people in other groups saying that they have had Zoom appointments as this means that you and the consultant can see each other.

I know that if I find anything worrying happening to my skin I will get a face-to-face appointment and, I'm sure if your consultant thinks that something needs to happen to your graft, you'll be offered an appointment too.

Let us know how you get on

  • Hi

Have you had your Zoom appointment yet? If so, how did it go?
