Hi I’ve been coming on to this online community since April 25 when my husband got diagnosed , we have gained valuable information that has so helped us and that has stopped worries . He was Gleason 3+ 4 and advised that active surveillance was fine at this point , we both felt a little uneasy at the start of this bit as the year went on and my husbands PSA didn’t alter we felt more confident , until end March this year when the routine MRI showed areas of concern in areas already seen , so end of April a biopsy , end of May meeting with consultant to tell us prostate was now full of cancer and had grown faster than expected and it was now time for treatment , we had done our research and told consultant straight away surgery please . He said 8-10 weeks wait so imagine our suprise 2 days later a call to say he could have surgery in 4 weeks . Surgery happened in 2nd July , recovery had been lots better than expected , not overly in pain , just on paracetamol, bit of constipation but cured with liquid from chemist , catheter caused no problems, catheter removal no problem and no leakage on catheter removal which was one of our big worries , no leakage next day or day after nothing at all . We couldn’t understand this at all , we put it down to surgeons expertise and husband doing his pelvic exercises religiously. Had phone call from surgeon this week saying husband lucky had operation when he did as prostate full of disease right up to margin ,Gleason now changed to 4+3 he’s not been able to do nerve sparing as he had to cut away a lot to make sure cancer all gone but he mentioned he had used a new procedure where the I’m going to call it bladder tube as I don’t know proper name ( maybe urethra) wasn’t cut as normally it is in two places then sewn back together it was dissected instead then sewn so a piece wasn’t cut out which helps with incontinence I’d done lots of research and hadn’t come across this method . I’ve researched it now and it’s CUP Complete Urethral preservation . Does anyone know anything about this ? How long has this been around ? I was just wondering why it’s not in any of the leaflets given at hospital . It’s sounds amazing . If it is something new I just wanted to mention it so other men could research it and ask about it .
