Hi my name is Andy. I have fairly recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I’m new to this online stuff & I am probably sending a message to the wrong person or in wrong way. I am a Gleason score of 7 & the team think I am suitable for a shortened form of radiotherapy called SABR with no hormone therapy. It is early days yet & I am to see an oncologist at Birmingham QE next Thursday the 11th at 9.45am. I live on my own, so It would be good to converse to blokes in same boat The good thing is that the QE is just down the road - that’s if I am going there for treatment!!
Best wishes
Andy
Hello Andy (Brummie69 )
Yes, you are now on the Prostate Group now so another welcome.
If they can treat your prostate cancer with SABR only that's a great "easy fix". Here's some information for you:
Radiotherapy/external-beam-radiotherapy/stereotactic-ablative-radiotherapy-sabr.
For your meeting on 11 June it's a good idea to take someone with you, have your questions ready and ask to be sent a copy of the meeting notes after the meeting. Here's a list to help with your questions:
I hope the above helps - I am sure others will be along with advice soon.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Brummie69/Andy
Welcome to our club! I would say that you have found the right place..
If you have a look at the little picture next to our name you can see our profile info - or just click on the name in green.
If you could fill in some of your own info onto your profile it will help the very experienced folk on this forum to assist further. Or you don't have to! Your choice - but the whole point is that this place is safe and anonymous.
Having said the bit about anonymity I too am attending Oncology Cancer Centre at the QE - and have been since diagnosis in September 2025, and am a couple of stops away on the Cross City line...
I am on hormone therapy and have just finished my last round of chemotherapy. My oncologist wants to talk to me about radiotherapy at our next chat in August (but I now am on three months off to recover from chemo..). I have found all of the folk at the hospital really good, although I did say to the chemo team that I would hope to never see them again (in the nicest possible way).
The Cancer Centre has a great information room just as you go into it on the right hand side (The Patrick Room - supported by macmillan). I also attended a Wellbeing course organised by them last autumn which was very useful - and they then sent the links to the videos to the attendees. The have a good website to support as well which you can find via the Trust's normal website , look under Services, Cancer, Patients and Visitors, Living With and Beyond Cancer (sorry couldn't seem to embed a link!)
A good thing to look out for is the Prehabilitation info - getting ready for treatment, it is very useful. I was also given a helpful guide about the RT by my consultant.
Also very helpful is the Prostate Cancer UK website - again plenty of information available. And their leaflets (downloadable) have a list of key questions to ask.
It would be really helpful if you can take another person with you - four ears are better than two, or you can agree to record the session on your phone?
Hope all goes well
All the best
KrisPy
Hi All. Thanks for all your suggestions. I’m not quite sure what questions to ask & i have a brother & sister, but they are much older than me. My brother, 79, had had prostate cancer & had hormone therapy & radiotherapy. Is there a list of question anywhere? Or what questions would people ask anyway? I’m sure things will slot into place & I’m told you can chat to people undergoing treatment there too as the treatments progress. However mine is only over 2 weeks. Probably 3 one week’& 2 the next. I don’t think I have anyone to take with me. Is there an advocate who can come with me ?
Best wishes
