Hi there,  You can see my journey to date in profile . 48 hours post my Oncology meeting which was  a bit worse than I had hoped. I had guessed that results werent great by the speed everything has happened.  It was only  month ago I went to see my GP about painful legs and a weight loss ( needed but unexpected :-) ) Being told stage 4 was a bit of a punch to the solar plexus  The scan showing the extensive spread in the bones was not a pretty sight and has given my wife a couple of sleepless nights With my PSA having reduced from >1000 to 720 in just over 3 weeks it looks like the cancer is responding to the drugs so I am going to go ahead with the suggested Triplet of adding Darolutamide and chemo with Docetaxel.  Still cant get my head round is it years ?  Do I need to get my will out and check it again?  I am reasonably fit and known for being quite determined so am going to fight as hard as I can.  Is work a non starter during my chemo?  I basically reired and still do the odd project and involves coaching type sessions 121 over internet.  My thought is that I may not be sharp enough and should just pass until all done .  Nice to meet you all

  • hi pal im in a similar boat. if you read my profile it may give you a idea of whats to come. im currently on a beach in roda corfu . good luck with your treatment.

  • Hello Rob (

A warm welcome to the Online Community, although I am so sorry to find you joining us.

I have been here 4.5 years, I am a Stage 3 so although still on treatment still chasing the "curative pathway".

I can tell you that since I have been here "Triplet Therapy" has been introduced with great success. I have seen Community members join us - sail through Triplet Therapy - and leave us (still breathing!) with almost undetectable PSA. It's a great, hit it hard, hit it fast treatment.

Keep your will in the drawer, I hope no one needs it - stay positive and stick with us. I was diagnosed at 66 (70 now) Self Employed and drive a desk and computer, never lost a days work - but having said that - dodged chemotherapy so far.

As any questions you have - you will get answers nothing is too trivial.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi OldieRob

Sounds like we are in a similar position - welcome!!

The folk on here are a great source of info and support so keep checking in.

The Triplet Therapy route is a hard one but I am sure it was the best one (for me).  I have just had my last chemo so am 10 days into my last cycle and am beginning to feel "normal" again...

The fatigue is the worst thing about it all - the rest of the side effects seem to be able to be countered by drugs in one form or another.  I am also looking forward to getting off the steroids at some point - I have a tapering off plan for the next two months or so.

I also thought about a visit to the solicitor - and as my current Will was decades old I did get it updated, signing off in a couple of weeks.  A good bit of house keeping BUT should not be a panic response!!!

The TT has good results and I am looking forward to having many more years yet!

My Oncologist wants to talk about Radiotherapy next - but it will not get to the lymph nodes in the abdomen as the structures are too crowded around them and high risk of collateral damage, so on the HT for life.....

The effects of HT will build up over the next weeks and months and you will see changes - my beard stopped growing for instance, and my pecs are becoming manboobs!!!! I am keeping up the exercise regime - walking, indoor bike, resistance bands and weights.  Still putting on weight though!!   I have recently upped my protein intake to see if it will help with muscle loss/exercise.  Emotions can be difficult at times - I can get very tearful very easily these days.

Chemo has its own challenges, but got through them with some careful risk management (think Covid days!). I didn't have much hair to start with and that got very patchy and lots fell out - I am now rocking a Yul Bryner!

You sound like a positive guy - and that is just what is needed now. Be positive, be strong and you will get through this.

My PSA at the start was 953, T3 N1 M1A and grade group 5 (4+5 = 9 Gleason) - my PSA is now<0.025 and has been for a couple of months - so it does work!!!

    All the best

    KrisPy

  • Hello ,

A warm welcome from me also, although I'm sorry you had the need to join.

I also had triplet therapy in 2024 following recurrence after initial treatment in 2016. I created a blog of my experience and a link to this is below if you would like to have a read when you've nothing better to do. I was also 68 when I had this and you'll see that all my 12 week check ups are OK so far. The next one is due in a couple of weeks.

As you'd expect it's not the best experience in life but it does produce excellent results so worth it as far as I'm concerned.

I wish you all the best, and any questions just ask and I'll do my best to answer.

    Derek.

  • Nice to meet you too OldieRob. I’m in the same boat, on Triptorelin and Darolutamide with RT scheduled a couple weeks. I’ve only just begun my journey but my advice is to stick to a good diet, plenty of exercise and a positive mindset and you’ll be around for many years to come. It’s what I’m aiming for, and remember, we don’t just do it for ourselves, we do it for our loved ones too. Best wishes my friend Thumbsup

  • Goodmorning Oldierob, my husband was diagnosed in  march 2024  he is on the triplet therapy, he continued worked at home building and destroying thing most days through his chemo. He recently had a heart attack and had 2 stents fitted,  he is still working hard at home and keeps at busy as he can. We are waiting for the next psa test and consultation next week but so far his psa is undetectable at 0.01.

All the best on your journey.

  • Hi, sorry to see you on here, my partner was diagnosed last year with stage 4 mestastic PC, spread to many bones but not in lymph nodes.....he responded well to treatment too but declined triplet therapy, opting to keep chemo in the bag for later.....many on here have gone through the treatment with great results. Have a read of profiles, ask lots of questions, this group is really helpful.

    Good luck moving forwardBlue heart
