My husband has been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. He had a PET scan two weeks ago to check for spread. The results are back and have been discussed at an MDT meeting yet he has now been told he faces a 6-8 week wait for an oncology appointment where he will receive his results!
Hi,
I hate the term but my team call it a journey. From the initial blood test to biopsies, MRIs, bone scans and everything else it does seem like there is a lot of time spent waiting.
All I can say is the team know what they are doing and you have to have faith. I am now nearing the end of my treatment, a few more months of pills and a free six month membership of the gym on the Cancer Activity programme and the past few months seem like a dream / mild nightmare.
Take it one day at a time and it does get easier hanging around and waiting. The NHS doesn't rush but be assured they are working hard in the background.
Hello Charlie1
If it's gone to the MDT then all his results will be in and they will have formulated a treatment plan.
You could try contacting them, tell them of the anxiety the wait is causing and that you are available to take any short notice cancellations.
The other option is to run through your husbands diagnosis dates as they fit on the "Cancer Pathway". This aim is to start treatment within 62 days of the urgent referral. If he fall outside this timeframe contact the hospital PALS (Patient Advisory and Liaison Service) and see if they can move his appointment forward.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hello Charlie1
Ah fair enough, thank you. I have had the same issues. When I spoke to my team about the delay between the scan and being given the results I was told if any further action was required I would have been told earlier - I did point out waiting 6 weeks for a clear result wasn't good for Mrs Millibob (I don't suffer anxiety).
It would help us to help you if you would add your husbands journey details to his profile. To do this on your home page, click on the chair - top right, then profile and then edit. Once you have written something click on save.

Hi Charlie1 once started on the HT then you can relax as the cancer will be held in check. Brian has given you some useful advice to see if you can bring the date forward. If you have access to the NHS App and you are in one of the areas in the country where the service is joined up, you may be able to see some of his results. In which case, please let us know and we can talk you through them (just don’t Google!).
Best wishes, David
