I am 54 year old. I had surgery in December 22nd 2025. I should feel lucky for getting caught in time. However I am struggling with life after surgery. Still getting up 3 times a night for the toilet, not being able to have penetration during intimacy, no erecrions. Problems peeing. Feeling like there is no support. Hopefully get some here

  • Hi Not myself

Welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place for advice and support.

Presumably your surgery went well and your PSA is now undetectable? I had robotic surgery in 2023, did you have the same? Did you have any discussions with your surgeon about nerve sparing?

My initial comment would be that it's a major operation and after 4 months you are still recovering. It took me about a year to make a 100% recovery so it's still early days.

I'm not a medical professional but some thoughts about aiding recovery based on my personal experience are as follows:

Keep up the pelvic squeeze exercises.

Because of incontinence after surgery some people get into the habit of emptying their bladder regularly before it is full. Can be helpful to practice not going straight away (at convenient times) letting your bladder build up strength.

Have you been contacted by the hospital Andrology team (sexual health)? If not chase them for an appointment. It was more than 6 months before my first appointment. They can give advice and tablets to help with erectile distinction.

It's hard but try not to stress too much about your recovery. This only makes things worse. You are on the right track so give it time.

Feel free to ask me anything.

    Cliff

  • Hi Notmyself,

I am so sorry to see you here but it is a great place to get support.  I had the op in June 2024 and at 4 months I was still getting up to pee 3 times a night.  Now I am peeing one or two times a night.  Do you know if you had 'nerve sparing' or are the nerves all gone?  If they are gone then you need to adapt to a world where erections are not likely.  If they were spared then there is a good chance the erections will return.  I had my nerves removed and as such have had to come to terms with no erections.  I needed cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) to overcome the loss.  I would recommend a trip to your GP as problems with peeing sounds worrying and CBT is worth getting a referral.  Warning in my area CBT is a 8 to 9 month waiting list.
