Hi Everyone,

I'm Mike and I turned 60 in November and live in Debon.

Recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. PSA 5.02, size 17.07cc, highest Gleason grade 4+3 -6 and 3+4 -2. Cancer detected in 8 of the 9 samples. Had my bone scan last Friday, and the really helpful nurse got me in for my CT scan as I had the canula in situ. Just waiting for the results now. My last PSA in 2023 was 2.8. Just finding my way around, downloaded Squeezy for men and following religiously. Have a really good cancer centre close by thst I'll be visiting. Just finding my way around but will be reading and exploring.

Just want to send best wishes for those in a similar situation and thanks for the advice guidance and support for those who are further in.

Take care fellas.

  • Hello Mike (

Welcome to the group, although I am so sorry to find you here. Lowish Gleason and PSA - a clear bone scan and CT should put you on a "Curative Pathway".

I would have thought all treatment options - Surgery, Hormone Therapy/Radiotherapy and Brachytherapy would be on offer - see what your team come up with at the MDT meeting once all the results are in. remember it's your choice and you have time to make that choice.

We are all happy to answer questions - nothing is to trivial. (Nice Wetherspoons in Exeter by the way - George's Meeting House - had a few pints there last time Oldham played The Grecians).

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks Brian,

Still early days and the recommendation has been surgery, but I'm looking through the forums and gathering as much info as I can.

I know the Meeting House well, may well be there Saturday as a mate is coming down. The Imperial by the train station is a good one too.

My ex is from Oldham, so saw them play Plymouth a few years back. I'm from the Midlands, a Wolves fan as I'm a victim of geography, but they less said about that the better, but we're unbeaten in 2026 Slight smile

  • Hello Mike (

If you Click on many Community member's names or Avatars you will find many of us have a record of our journey (mine's HT/RT with a few other bits thrown in just to cloudy my path) there are plenty of surgery stories on the Community.

I always say to people write a list of the pros and cons of each choice of treatment as they would affect you and your partner as we are all different.

Ah The Imperial - I thought I was in Kew gardens there were that many plants!!  Wolves. played 22, 8 points - well it could be worse - we are the only ex Premier League team to have played in the National League by dropping 5 tiers!!

Have a trawl around the group and read people's journeys - do ask questions - everyone's happy to help.

    Best wishes - Brian.

Hi  this is really good advice.  It is so easy to grab at the “if in doubt, have it out “ philosophy.  You said that you have already downloaded the squeezy app.  That gives me the impression that you may be considering surgery without any other research.

But think. Think hard. Consider percentages of success of various treatments. Think potential side effects.  Think about your age and what is important to you.   That’s all.   AW

  • Thanks Alpine,

I've had a whirlwind of a week and trying to come to terms with the diagnosis. I came to the process with no knowledge but feeling that all the terminology and opinions/options are leaving me a bit overwhelmed. I appreciate your comment. Surgery to remove the prostate was recommended at the same  time as the diagnosis so a lot to take in. I'm hoping that by reading through the forums and asking questions/reading answers that I can make an informed decision. They did mention other options but I was just in a daze at the diagnosis. As mentioned, as I get to know more I hope I can come to the best outcome. I did downloaded Squeezy, but with or without surgery it won't harm building up my pelvic floor. Thanks again.

  • Hi Mike. Feel free to message me if you want to bounce any thoughts.

  • I’ve never used squeezy or any pelvic exercises, but I have had no urinary problem whatsoever since my brachytherapy boost radiotherapy.  AW

  • Thanks AW. Still a bit of a blur and I'm not sure what all of the treatments entail. I'm waiting on results from my scans, which were last Friday. I can then think options.

  • Bone and CT scans have come back ALL CLEAR so no spread outside the prostate. It's a huge relief and I'll take every win. My case will be discussed next week. Surgery is still preferred option but will talk about pros and cons of all options. They have confirmed that it would be robot assisted in this area if I went down that route. Still gathering info and will continue to do so. Thank you to everyone on here, your advice and good luck to everyone pulling on a paddle in the sane boat.
