Hi all this is my first posting. I had radiotherapy for prostate cancer in year 2000. Over time began to experience leaking urine which got progressively worse to the extent that I now have to use pads.I have also ended up with ED and very little feeling in the pelvic area and diagnosed with scarring in the bladder. Over the last year have been experiencing an odour of urine which someone told me was an eventual effect of radiotherapy. My question really has anyone else experienced this problem and if so is their any treatment or solution. Many thanks

  • Hi  - looks like you have been diagnosed with radiation spill into the bladder.  Radiotherapy in 2000 was very different to the computer aided, targeted, LINAC radiotherapy of today.  On the positive side, the radiotherapy you had 25 years ago appears to have stopped the prostate cancer.  Sorry I can’t add any advice other than your side effect diagnosis.   AW

  • Hello

A warm welcome to the group although I am so sorry to find you joining us.

I can't answer your question myself but by me replying your post will be "bumped back" up to the top of the page and i hope seen and answered by other members of the group.

All I can suggest is the lingering odour if it's not caused by a UTI will be the results of radiation cystitis caused by scarring during the radiotherapy treatment. If this is the case you need to contact your GP as soon as possible.

Please do let us know how you get on with this.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi  unfortunately the symptoms sound like slight radiation damage which can show itself years after treatment.  I had radiation proctitis over a year after treatment.  The odour may be worth checking out with your GP but after so long is probably not a UTI.  Some of the chaps on here have used an app to help with leakage and improve bladder control (I can’t remember what it is called) and I am sure someone will post a link to it.

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • Hello David (

It's the Squeezy App  (link Squeezy-for-men.)

It's to help train your pelvic floor so you can control your bladder.

    Best wishes - Brian.
