Cancer on the move!!

Hello,

My husband was diagnosed in 2020 with Advanced prostate cancer, with mets in lymph nodes, pelvis and 2 ribs. He has done really well with his oral chemo/hormone treatment until shock last night.

He had checkup scans in January this year and even though his PSA was rising all looked good and we were told not to worry about it.

Last night he was admitted to hospital with what we thought was a bad uti infection and on new scans it showed the cancer has spread to liver and lower lung nodes since January!

I always understood this was a slow growing cancer and we cannot get our heads around this complete bolt out of the blue, it feels as bad as when he was first diagnosed.

My daughter and I are so scared, does this mean there is nothing else they can do? we have to wait for oncology and probably more scans in case it's anywhere else, but the terror is choking us.

Has anyone else had it spread so quickly before and if so what have they said can be done?

Sorry, to go on but just trying to sort my head out about this shock.

thank you much.

  • So sorry to hear that.

    Best wishes, David

  • Hello Jlpeb, I’m sorry to be late into this conversation and extremely sorry to hear of your husband’s current situation. I do hope things have improved overnight as the antibiotics kick in. My thoughts are with you and your family x

  • Thankyou, sadly nothing has changed, they called us in late last night not knowing if he would make it through but still with us. He is not a candidate for resus or ventilator though he is on oxygen and I think that is the only thing keeping him going. Kidneys going down and consolidation in lungs. Such a fast downhill turn, not quite sure how to process it and basically prepare. Heartbreaking especially for our daughter, her and her dad so closeBroken heartx

  •   words fail me.  I have been living with incurable cancer for a long time and luckily treatments have given me more time.  My hope is that when these fail, it happens fast and painlessly. Perhaps that is a selfish view on my behalf but I hope my family will understand.
We are all hoping that your husband recovers and send you virtual hugs.

    Best wishes, David

  • Thankyou, we have had 5 1/2 years of being extremely lucky with the cancer and making lots of memories and stupid photos!

    • With his prognosis we also wish his time to be swift and painless, again as you said seems selfish but is just kindness to the person suffering and family. He would not want to carry on like this he was always so active, still working 2 months ago!! Bless him.
  • My heart goes out to you all. I hope that the hospital are managing to keep your husband comfortable as his body tries to fight these problems and that  you are all receiving the care and support you need at such a difficult time.

    < hugs to you all>

  • They are keeping him comfortable, just spoke to them again and no change.

Thankyou for your kind words, they mean a lot. xx

  • My last post as sadly my wonderful husband and Beth's loving father, David passed away peacefully earlier this evening due to Sepsis (compounded by his cancer).

Thankyou to everyone for your kind words and prayers, they have brought comfort in our most trying time.

We wish all of you on this journey good luck, good health and all the love possible.

    Heart️Heart️
