Hello all

I have been on the road to discovering I had Prostate cancer since 2023 which started out as an enquirey into some bowel problems which I had an MRI scan for to discover if my spine was causing trouble it was not. However it was pointed out that my bladder was full to bursting which led to a trip to Urology at Salisbury District Hospital. They carried out lots of tests as I was concerned that it was a recurring problem that I had 30 years ago with a urethral stricture.

My stricture was still a problem and I was asked to carry out ISC three times a day to get any retention down as I was retaining approx 700/800ml after three months of nearly continual UTIs I went back to urology for help which resulted in a TURP procedure being done unfortunately it did not help and I am still doing ISC to this day.

However it was discovered that the chippings from my prostate we’re Gleason 7 3 + 4 and I would require a further biopsy which was done in February 2025 returning a result of Gleason 7  4 + 3 .

After consultations with radiotherapy team they were concerned about my ongoing bowel problems and suggested that surgery would be my best option as the RT could exacerbate my bowel troubles.

I them met my consultant surgeon who explained everything to me showing my scans and the proposed surgery which is Robotic iassisted and was then put on the waiting list and prescribed Bicalutamide and Tamoxifen in April 2025 my operation is due on 12th June so not a long wait, the tablets are making me very lethargic but I am still walking approx 5km per day to keep my fitness up and weight down.

i do not particularly have any worries about it however I don’t have a problem with getting up in the night to pee as my retention is still high I have been doing pelvic floor but I do not have any trouble with incontinence as I already struggle to void anything so hopefully won’t have a problem after my op.

sorry about the rambling post but I needed to explain the journey and had I not had a TURP would not have discovered the cancer so consider myself very fortunate to discover it before it has spread.
