Hi just had biopsy follow up. Gleason 3 + 4 localised to prostate T2C (Nothing detected on lymph nodes or bone)
They will arrange appointment with surgeon and oncologist as options either removal of prostate OR radiotherapy, but that will not be for a few weeks. Any thoughts or experiences or advice welcome.
Hello YY2718
A warm welcome to the Macmillan online Prostate Community although I am so sorry to find you here. I am Brian, one of the Community Champions here at Macmillan and have been on my personal prostate cancer journey for over 3 years.
Yours is a question many people ask and the answer is it's personal to you. Make a list of the pros and cons of each treatment as to how they affect YOU. Do your research from trusted sources, Prostate Cancer UK, Cancer Research UK and Macmillan (not Dr Google!). Listen to what the surgeon and oncologist have to say too. I will start you off with a couple of links:
Radiotherapy for Prostate Cancer
I hope this helps - feel free to ask any questions, however trivial they are.
Best wishes - Brian.

Thanks for that Brian. I think the surgery link may be to a "community champion" page though? If anyone has personal stories they are welcome though I'm sure I will find plenty of people posting online. Like I say it will be a few weeks before I even see the surgeon and oncologist.
Hello YY2718 and welcome from a wife. To help you navigate what your options are I usually point people in the direction of a book which you can download for free.
https://issuu.com/magazineproduction/docs/js_prostate_cancer_guide_for_patients_ezine
By reading it you will find that there are different options within both surgery and radiotherapy or focal therapy but not all health authorities have access to them so you may have to ask where you can access them.
Ask a lot of questions and people will come back with their experience but ultimately it will come down to personal choice. You have time to make a decision which is right for you but remember that a surgeon will usually advocate surgery and an oncologist will advocate a focal therapy or radiotherapy.
Hi, I have recently , ie 2 weeks ago had brachytherapy, the detail is in my profile.
Thanks, yes I thought brachytherapy might be an option but will wait until I see oncologist.
Hello YY2718
Yes - you are right - it's been one of those days - correct link now in place and as a bonus here's the Brachytherapy one!!

Hi YY2718 ,
I began a similar journey back in March 2023 and completed twenty sessions of radiotherapy in mid August 2024. It was a long slow journey but my last PSA figure was quoted as undetectable (less than 0.03). Time will of course tell how this progresses. Please feel free to read the long winded diary of my journey in my profile, I hope it helps you.
