My husband has advanced Prostate cancer after being first diagnosed 12 years ago. Initially in remission it recurred just before Covid. After going through all the treatments, he is now running out of options. Friends and family are great, but beginning to need to talk/ask questions of carers in similar positions. Thank you for accepting me.

  • So very sorry to hear of your situation I am sure some of the lovely people on here will be able to help with any questions you have

  • Hello Again

Magic that, you have found us. - welcome to our little part of the Community. So to help us help you can I please ask you to update your husbands profile so we know where he's at and what treatments he's had so far.

To add to his profile on your home page, click on the chair, top right, then "profile" and then "edit". Once you have written something don't forget to click on save. (You can read my profile by clicking on my name or avatar - but you don't need to write a novel - just the facts!).

Thank you - Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hello  and welcome from another wife whose husband also has advanced prostate cancer and we are also on this rollercoaster, although we have been told that there are still more tools in the toolbox. Please ask whatever questions or if you just want a chat or need to vent then there is always someone here to listen.

  • Hi Soos, and another warm welcome to the forum from me, I also have advanced prostate cancer, and I  am caring for a family member, and have 15 years in healthcare to fall back on, the guys on here are amazing, happy to share their  experiences, offer support and advice and be there for you on your journey, I hope they find further treatments for your husband.

  • Hello Soos

sorry to hear of your situation. If you live in the UK you should be able to access advice and guidance about care through Carers UK https://www.carersuk.org

Your local authority should also be able to guide you also and also help with costs if you have assets less than about £23500 ( I think that’s the correct amount) you will be eligible for subsidised or free care.

There are also funds for carers allowance or attendance allowance - these are age dependent but I don’t know the full details.

There is a benefit called ‘continuing health care’ and I think this is gained by going through your GP or Integrated Care System.

sorry to be a bit vague because I don’t know all the rules for accessing these benefits but I hope it gives you a ‘starter for 10’ in getting the help you both need
