Diagnosed in October, purely by chance, have CKD and routine blood test for my pre transplant showed elevated PSA, got all the tests and came back Gleason 9, now on Hormone therapy and awaiting Radiotherapy. Most upsetting part is removal from transplant register for 5 years. Have great support and in good spirits, good to hear of guys getting through this with good outcomes.

  • Good Morning

A warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Prostate Community, although I am so sorry to find you here. I am Brian one of the Community Champions on the group. I also have Prostate cancer and am a member of our "Gleason 9 Club".

From your post, it looks like you are in control and everything is going well apart from the transplant. It was CKD that got me here in the first place (click on my avatar or user name for the full story). My eGFR is now back in the "normal" range at 61. I assume that yours is being checked on a regular basis as some Hormone Therapies can affect your eGFR.

Feel free to ask any questions and join in any conversations here - we like to think of ourselves as one big family.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Brian,

Thanks for the welcome, funny because like most my. symptoms were masked by my CKD, my eGFR is at 18 and has dropped 40% in 2 years.

Good to hear your positive results.

I look forward to using group over coming months as I go through my treatment.

    Take care

  • Hello Paul (

Yes, I had no idea what I had at first, I never thought of Prostate Cancer - other people get that, and then the Christmas Eve telephone call, "Get yourself down to A&E we have a bed for you". it's taken 3 years to get my eGFR back from 8 to 61. I was actually told they won't do scans if it's below 30. (That was just after a full MRI and CT scan when they knew my eGFR!! Expressionless.

Keep up the fight - we are here for you.

    Best wishes - Brian.
