I just joined the group, billed for prostate surgery cancer surgery on the 28th of October 2024.

I will appreciate sharing experience with people who have passed through it. Thanks.

    1. Hello, thanks for having me here

  • Good morning and welcome  . My husband hasn't had a Prostatectomy but to start the ball rolling I have tagged in  who has given a very informative thread on his experience from the day of the operation. In order to aid your recovery the first thing you should start to do is pelvic floor exercises to strengthen internal muscles - the Squeezy App will tell you how to do them properly. It is also a good idea to get help to maintain penile health so have a word with the doctor on this.

     RE: Post Surgery

  • Hi Onyejelem

if you have any questions once you’ve read my thread as mentioned by  and  , look me up and ask me any question that you might have, no matter how big, small or insignificant it may seem, in the meantime crack on with the pelvic floor exercises, when you’re hooked up to the catheter …. Stop as that’s a big no no, then return to them as soon as possible after it has been removed

All the best and good luck

    John

  • Thanks a lot for the information about the pelvic exercise.

  • Hi, I'm 6 months post Prostatectomy. Read my profile for details. And as Johnnyboy says, crack on with the Pelvic Floor Exercises. I would advise downloading the NHS Squeeze app.

    1. I appreciate your courage, resilience and support. I am encouraged. My psa is 8 and I have not had  need for catheter. I am really encouraged.
  • Good luck on your journey. I too am new to the group and had robotic surgery on 7th October 2024. I am currently resting at home and I still have my catheter in place (I am struggling to pass water unaided) to help me empty my bladder.

If there are questions I can help with please get in touch. I am at the beginning of my recovery.

  • I am slated for  robotic prostrate surgery on the 28th of October. I have a pre op appointment on the 23rd  but in my last appointment I was told they will do an ECG and blood test to confirm I am fit for the surgery. Could it be on that 23rd? and what and what do I need to go to hospital with on the day of surgery. Do I need to go with someone on the 28th? Thanks.

  • Hi Onyejelem

I had my post op the week before. They took bloods, asked some questions and I had minor examinations just to make sure I was OK for surgery. It took about 30 mins and I was allowed to leave afterwards.

I reported to the Hospital on the day of my operation. Remember to follow the advise about food and drink times before hand and you should be OK. I went with my wife for support and details about after the op were passed on to her. I didn't need to take anything as the hospital provided everything required but I did take a bag with PJs as I don't like hospital gowns.

I awoke soon after the op. I was informed my wife knew I was ok. I was transferred to the ward they had advised her to attend should she wish.

Good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery from the surgery
