thanks to all who offered advice , im going to get my husband to try  dulcoease tonight , Fingers crossedfor a good ,,,,out come . I was wandering is it a common problem with prostrate cancer,,,,,, or more so when it’s advanced .

  • Hello Gena.

Constipation can become more of a problem as you age because the appetite and food intake tends to be reduced. I was wondering if Eddie still suffers from Gall Stones as this can also cause constipation and pain. My husband is on HT for life and does suffer from constipation if he hasn't eaten enough but a side effect from the HT can be sluggish bowels.

I hope you have a better night but it may take two or three doses to get things moving with the gentler DulcoEase.

  • Hi Gena and AH, I do have 1 Gallstone 40mm and 3 kidney stones, Gena I had no bowel problems until 4 months after RT even though part of my bowel and rectum were targeted "successfully" and I had 73gy of radiation. I had a small benign tumour removed, developed radiation proctitis and a few anal fissures, bled almost all the time and had haemorrhoids "for years" as AH says the right diet for you is so important as is plenty of water. I found smaller meals more often with my 1st and last being berries and yoghurt has worked for me and for the last 6-8 weeks my bowels have been pretty much normal, I  do self medicate with Movicol 13.8mg and ducosate 100mg with movicol favoured which I only take if needed.

AH Sheffield Uni are working on an immunotherapy treatment for CRPC patients  using nanoparticles, their hoping to start human trials soon and believe it could give 18 more months by delaying tumour resistance

  • Hi again , gall stones alzimers & prostrate cancer he’s in denial about them all and takes nothing other than the odd paracetamol, and with the alzimers ,,,he tends to want sweet things ,,,, if the dulcoease doesn’t work tonight i’ll give him one of the dulcolax tomorrow night , husband is 82 and never been ill before ,He also saw his mum suffer with cancer back in 1963/4/5, and i think that, trauma has stayed with him  ,, so his attitude was “ i’ve had a good life. ,,, “  I’m so looking forward to sleep tonight, thankyou for listening ,

  • Good morning Gena.

I hope you had a better night and that Eddie didn't keep you awake. It might take 2/3 days to get things moving and if necessary you can dose him up twice a day but take it steady. I can remember you saying that he likes his sweet things and gets annoyed if you try to restrict his intake. If he likes his puddings (but doesn't like Greek yogurt as my husband says he doesn't) then you can disguise it in things like an uncooked cheesecake by replacing some of the cream with the yoghurt. I also stir it into porridge just before serving and he doesn't know it, especially if it has a half teaspoon of honey added and some red berries on top.

  • Morning Gena, my story was not intended to worry you, only to show that even with all the problems specific to me you can still return to normal bowel habits.

    Eddie xx

  • Good morning Eddie. Gena's husband is an Eddie as well, hence the reference about him.

Hope you have a good day in the sunshine.

  • Morning AH, thanks for clearing that up, PS Gena's husband is called Eddie, is an Eddie has connotations, anything you would like to say to us Eddie's,

  • I am afraid I am ignorant of any connotations but I like the meaning of the name.

  • hi alwayshope , ,,, no movement as yet sadly ,,, i’ll  give him the dulcolax tonight Fingers crossed, it took ages tom fall asleep my mind racing all the time ,,, but i think i had a decent 5 hours, regarding the greek yogurt i love it so i put some on his cereal this morning and i will be using your tip on the cheese cake , thank you again ,

  • Hi Eddie , you didn’t cause any concern  so please don’t worry , i really appreciate all advice , Gena x
